what specs on your mac? keep getting different opinions on what to do. build a hackintosh was another option from someone although it seems unlikely ill go down that route. |

| i just recently bough a mac mini just to see whether i could work on Mac OSX and Logic or if i hated it right away. The mac mini was too weak though to run Logic and Reason as good as i wanted (1,87GHz 1GB Ram, 80GB HD) but it seems i can use OSX and logic so therefore im saving for an imac myself. When also remote desktop works from mac i can use my PC as i fileserver/backup. Hackintosh route might work for some but it didnt for me, im not a PC wizard and if anything can wrong it will on me. I dont think u will regret on imac, while u might on mac pro if u choose that, id rather check out some more on hackintosh instead of going for mac pro caus theirs alot of in it u dont need (wtf Raid - what a peace of for home computers, its meant for critical servers only). Be sure to get the 24" its full HD :) |

A mac mini has well enough power to run logic, and a bunch of plugins.
But I agree, I would like to eliminate the need for more power. That idea
was utopic dream just a few years ago, so I think people nowadays are pretty
damn spoiled with cpu power. There ARE ways of saving cpu, just like we all did
until the duo cores came out.
Just my humble thoughts.

| i hear u say it in many threads, would love to see how u do it when u freeze your tracks etc on that mini, i plan to try some more while saving money. have u done some settings in it caus mine is even slow just opening mozilla. |

I donīt use freeze mush, because imo it is not as well implemented as Iīd wish.
When you freeze a track, youīre not able to do any edits to any region of that track,
like moving regions around, loop, copy paste etc. JUST because of that, itīs pretty useless
for my use - because it takes a long time to freeze.
So what I do, is that when my cpu is reaching itīs limits, I stop adding synths - and rather
open a new project file where I import the track I have going. There I can play around with
other synths. When I have something Iīm happy with, I bounce the stuff down, and import it
to my main project file. Thatīs how Iīve been doing things ever since I started out.
It can be pain in the ass, but Itīs how I work. I wish you could record instrument tracks to audio files within the
project, that would make things easier for me. maybe in the next update. :)
edit: this is indeed possible! I just hadnīt tried it since 8.0, when it didnīt work for me, for some odd reason. This is a REALLY nice way to save cpu.
I have to say though, it takes a while before my cpu is getting a high hit. Maybe because of
my simple patches, and the plugins I use are cpu friendly. Itīs takes a whole lot more
than when I used my dell laptop 2ghz core duo with cubase. :)
My mini is much slower now, as Iīve installed a bunch of stuff, but it is still far from slow here.
I donīt use mozilla, but safari opens up really quick at least. |

If you are using Logic Pro 8, and I'm correctly assuming that by "synth" tracks you are referring to software instrument tracks, then you can do this. I do it all the time. |

how did you find using logic? you seem to be in the same situation as me. |

Ok, it seems like I lack a lot of fundamental understandings in logic.
If you could please tell me how to do this, Iīd be most grateful!
It might be very obvious, but I just canīt seem to get it to work. |

I just set the output of the softsynth to a bus and then create an audio track that takes that same bus as an input. |
