I read last night in an article 1984 is the book most people lie about reading. I've yet to read.

Anyway, I just read Revolutionary Road and watched the film, as well. Both are excellent.

Haha, I hadn't heard that statistic before, but it doesn't surprise me in the least. That very subject came up in the PDD just this week. :p

Someone told me about that today. I wonder why.

Yeah, I'm not sure. This isn't the article I read, but it says the same: link

War and Peace is not far behind.

>>1. 1984, by George Orwell 42%

I've read it but I prefer Zamyatin's "We" which predated 1984 and Brave New World both of which lifted many their ideas from Zamyatin.

>>2. War and Peace, by Leo Tolstoy 31%

A very long long story. But strangely enough its one of my favorite Russian novels.

>> 3. Ulysses, by James Joyce 25%

I tried reading but stopped because I couldn't understand it.

>> 4. The Bible 24%

who reads that cover to cover?

>> 5. Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert 16%

I started it but stopped halfway through. I think I was too young to appreciate it. Maybe someday I'll re-read it.

Pretending to be intelligent. Because you sound oh so clever in a conversation when saying something like "I've finished Ulysses last week. It was very deep and rewarding, but also difficult, like a very hard puzzle with a beautiful solution. You should read it someday..."

I used to read a lot when I was in school but I kinda dropped the habit when I started college. Now, I want to pick it up again and I'm looking for some good novels. Perhaps you guys could recommend me some?

As for genre, I'd prefer Sci-Fi, Mystery, Thrillers, and even Horror (a la Stephen King) but pretty much recommend any good novel new or old ;)

Hmmmm.....for sci - fi i'd say "Stranger in a strange land" by Robert A. heinlein, if you haven't read it that is.

well, that wouldn't make sense to me because i personally know that Ulysses is one monster of a book, it took me about a month to read and there are still parts which i don't get (portrait of an artist was better in my opinion), and i'm almost certain most people don't read the whole book.
