Tips for creating white noise sweeps and lfo sweeps

I'm looking for tips on creating some white noise sweeping type effects. Currently I use the maelstrom in Reason with the Pink noise oscillator sample and use the filters to create the sweeping effect. I want the sound to really change during the sweep though, like flanger or phaser effect or something (i.e. make it sound like a jet engine) however I find both these reason effects pretty rubbish as while some of the intended sound is created, often the sound is morphed too much and tends to also hit some aweful sounding points during the sweep. Hard to explain.

Same for LFO type sweeps, you know the 80's type archade sounds that are so affective in building up a sequence. Any tips on how to create these? Don't know how easy to explaing on a thread but thought I'd see what response I got.

cheers

I'm not sure whether it can be done in Reason, but a cool efect is that you modulate the sweeping by LFO and automate it's time...plus automate the cutoff

so the filter is opening smoothly and the LFO makes some sort of "vibrato effect" on the sweep going faster and faster ...

hope you understand:)

Yup understand exactly what you mean. What VST instruments and effect plugins do you use to do this? Reason is the only VST I found with decent white noise.

I like white noise from V-Station...also it does great at this kind of effect I described

Reason is not a VST. But you can make good sweeps in it yes, and if u have v4 i would use thor instead of malstroem.

Was typo. I know Reason isn't a VST but still wanting to know what VST's will make cool white noise sweeps so I can try in Cubase.

I do have Reason 4 though so will give Thor a try too.

The "jet engine" sound can be made with comb filtering.

I made a nice sweep in Reason, using the Subtractor. Only annoying thing is that it makes a distinct 'pop' when you sequence it, but then you get a nice sweep when you automate the filter. Just automate the fader, and voila ;)

If you are interested, you can hear it in my Mypsace player...Shameless plug :happy2:
Both the sweeps in that track are the same patch.

If you want a Combinator patch, let me know and I can hook you up.

rob papens predator has white noise waveforms, so you could set all 3 lfo's to white noise and then use envelopes to create the sweeps

I guess you mean OSC's ;).
But there is actually no use assigning 3 OSC's with white noise, because they have no fundamental, there is really no difference between 1 or 3, it only thickens the sounds (unison).

im not sure its possible to detune whitenoise lol, it sounds impossible to detune something without a tune. have never tried tho.

It's easy, just sample your own white noise generator and then play it back at two (or more) slightly different pitches at once. Gives a kind of "phasy" effect:
