I am in need of some new music bad for my ipod, and hopefully with some help here, can dig out some gems over the past couple years I may have missed:
list only actual albums (offical mixed albums okay too) just not dj sets. and feel free to broaden the scope. ie. jazz, rock, film scores etc.etc. |

Some random but excellent ambient/post-rock/IDM and even techno albums that i loved
M83- Before The Dawn Heals Us (and Digital Shades Part. 1 and the new one called- Saturdays=Youth. Also the older one-Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts)
Boy Is Fiction- Boy Is Fiction
Ulrich Schnauss- Goodbye
Apparat- Walls
Helios- Caesura
Port-Royal- Afraid To Dance
Lights Out Asia- Eyes Like Brontide
Bitcrush- Epilogue In Waves
Arms and Sleepers- Black Paris 86
Hammock- Raising Your Voice, Trying To Stop An Echo
ì-Ziq- In Pine Effect (one of the oldest IDM albums but one of the best-est-and more emotional!)also Lunatic Harness and Bluff Limbo. They are not from a couple of years back but they are great and classic
Mirco De Govia- Iconic Path ( nice and epic chill-trance album)
Proem- A Permanent Solution (melodic IDM)
Sigur Ros- Takk (atmospheric post-rock)
Mooncake- Lagrange Points
Labradford- Mi Medja Naradja (older dark-ambient but superb)
Stars of The Lid- And Their Refinement of The Decline (ambient/drone)
Clint Mansell with Kronos Quartet- The Fountain OST.
The Field- From Here We Go Sublime (minimal shoegaze-techno!)
Derek Carr- The Digital Space Race (deep detroit techno)
Digitonal- Save Your Light For Darker Days (downtempo with violins)
Burial- Untrue (the legendary dubstep album)
p.s,i think that i come with similar lists all the time lol! |

in no particular order...
Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice <----soft/alt/indie rock with great guitar work...in fact the only band i like besides Mars Volta from this genre
Phutureprimitive - Sub Conscious <---psybient like Shpongle's first album
Tool - Lateralus <---- Danny Carey. 'nuff said
Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours <----80's synthpop-esque style. Awesome to get pumped up with when going downtown or about to roll.
out of those four...at least get Minus the Bear. my metalhead friends like it and my stoner female friends love it. |

some great suggestions in everyones list so far. Thanks and keep the suggestions flowing!
Petran, those chilled albums are awesome. I'm going to have lots of great listening to do going through all those!
Browsound, some nice alternative suggestions in there!
subtle, its wierd cause way back i totally disregarded sasha, since i was only into trance and hated slow eletronica, now its completely the opposite, so thanks for drawing my attention to that album again! |

Well if you're into "slow electronica" now, check out these ones too:
Fennesz - Black Sea (2008) - warm and emotional blend of digital sounds and acoustic guitar, perfect if you like slowly developing and "unfolding" songs.
Shed - Shedding The Past (2008) - the most different (if not innovative) dub techno album of the year. You won't hear uninteresting 4x4 techno here, this album is filled with abstract beats and dubby atmosphere of the highest kind.
Thom Yorke - The Eraser Rmxs (2009) - mostly dubstep and dubstep influenced techno remixes of tracks from Yorke's debut album.
Kangding Ray - Automne Fold (2008) - probably my favourite album of 2008, little study on how you should use vocals to actually enhance your recording.
Milosh - Meme (2006) - the first album which showed that slow paced Bola-style IDM and vocals can go together very well.
Mr. Projectile - Sinking (2004) - if you like Autechre's Amber, you'll absolutely love this one.
Plod - Pillow Talk (1999) - hugely underrated, this one is probably the finest album of that ambient IDM style. |

thanks sljiva...nice suggestions!
to make it clear though, i'm not exclusively looking for slow electronica as stated in the OP. Feel free to branch out to any genres. as long as its not cheese, i like many genres of music. |
