So I've got plenty of minimal house/minimal techno. I was wondering, what is the most maximal house music. That is to say, what house music is out there that would be the exact opposite of minimal tech house? Lots and lots of layers, percussion, melodies and ...

Hmm, I don't quite see how the second one could ever be considered "maximal". It's just one loop that goes on and on throughout the whole track and... that's it. I guess something along the lines of tribal house/techno would have lots of percussion in it, if that's what you're after?
I would think electro/fidget would be maximal house in its purest form. It's really the antithesis of minimal in a lot of respects.
I'm no expert, but it seems to me that minimal isn't defined by its lack of layers, because there really isn't one. Most "minimal" tracks I've heard have a bunch of layers in them, they're just used differently. There are fewer big, wide-frequency, heavy noises and many more light, percussive type elements instead. Creation of the song seems to be done with a "less is more" mentality, with he result being that each sound is given more space to breathe in the mix. The song sounds like it is more empty, but its not really due to a lack of layers, its the producer using those layers in a far more subdued fashion to create a track with more space and less noise.
The contrast of course is electro/fidget with their super huge distorted basslines that feel like they take up 3/4 of the mix, coupled with massive screeches and samples yelling at the dancefloor to get the up and shake their booties (or take the dj's shaft). I can't think of anything that could be more opposed to what minimal producers try to accomplish.

That leftfield is more what people would call tech house or techno these days I suspect. I don't even know what the second one is :wtf:

I've always thought the "maximal" sound is like the big-room Razor N Guido/Junior Vasquez/Johnny Vicious productions from the late 90's... with 2 minute drumrolls, lots of screechy alarms and high-frequency synths, loud diva vocals, etc.

you're exactly right and that's a great description of minimal tech house. i had a hard time explaining what i meant. I guess a better description would be "thick and heavy" tunes rather than number of layers.

I guess what I'm looking for is melodic hard house that is under 130bpm. I love the old techno from the 90's and early 2000 era but a lot of it was too repetitive and too fast (135bpm+).

You've made a lot of good suggestions in the past. i got Golden girls - Kinetic (Frank De Wulf Remix) from you and also the secret cinema - timeless altitude months ago from you. just so you know the golden girls track worked great for me few months ago, brought the floor back to life, thought you might like to know that. i played the secret cinema in the same set but it definitely did not work, it kinda killed the floor. its at 129bpm but it really needs to be sped up more to work i think. i like these other 2 you've posted here but you're right the first one sounds like 131bpm might be too fast. sometimes i can slow a fast one down and it will work, but they usually have to be consistent "static" tracks with a lot of ryhthm but are repetitive to work when pitched down.
