The ever-growing list of movie remakes...

...or 'reboot,' depending upon how you look at it, and depending upon how those involved in its creation would prefer to market it to you.

Regardless, this nonsense is spinning out of control with remakes like the following on the horizon, complete with links for your disgust or excitement (with select titles emphasized for absurdity):

The Never Ending Story
Reanimator
Plan 9 (From Outer Space)
Predator
The Birds
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Tron
Total Recall
Red Dawn
Hellraiser
Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Karate Kid
The Crow
Troll
They Live
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Child's Play
Creature From the Black Lagoon
Red Sonja
Maniac
Candyman
I Spit On Your Grave
Evil Dead
In the Mouth of Madness
Highlander

A good chunk of these links are pretty old by now, but little new information has come up indicating any major changes or cancellations.

There's enough upcoming titles to the point where it's almost not even worth it to talk about them individually, and this list isn't even including remakes that were planned but either abandoned or postponed, like the remake of Escape From New York (almost scrapped), and the remakes to Rosemary's Baby, Phantasm, and Fright Night (basically all scrapped), in addition to various planned sequels. Despite this, there seems to be something for everyone to get pissed off with here.

Anyway, I can understand the willingness to provide some old classics with a nice, updated shot in the arm, and there are indeed some able hands involved in some of these (including the original creators, so it's hard to talk too much trash); but some of these are beyond the pale of being ridiculous and completely unnecessary; The Crow, In the Mouth of Madness, Predator, Total Recall, Candyman? Granted, it's been well over a decade since even the most recent of these, but is it really necessary (or thoughtful) to be remaking films from the late 80's to mid 90's?

By the way, the Rocky Horror Picture Show remake is receiving plenty of hate, and Richard O'Brien (original creator) wants nothing to do with this. If you're feeling limber, you can hop on board with a petition signature on a site dedicated exclusively to stopping this from ever coming to fruition.

I also spent way too much time on this thread.

EDIT: In a subtle ironic jab at myself, I realized that the 2003 remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre was playing in the background while creating this thread. :D

No. The movie industry is far far worse.

Yeah, the problem is that they're cheap, and with just a little promotion you get enough monkeys running to the cinema to make a little money. :whip:
They sort of did run out of ideas for horror movies, for I can't think of anything innovative from the last years.

This stupid remake fad needs to die already.

If they invested only half of all this money in original material a lot of great stuff would come out.

I nominate Thanos: The Hands Of Fate for a remake.

Chances are Michael Bay's already got it in the works.

...and it's 'Manos.' :D

Who do you think should play Torgo?

"Evil Dead" should be left well alone, that's a cult classic. I don't see how anyone could top Bruce Campbell in his prime playing 'Ash'. He was perfect for that part.

Total Recall? Really?

Also, they're remaking Old Boy. With Will Smith....:nervous:

George Lucas and Sylvester Stallone are not amused by your thread.

At least Hellraiser is being remade by Barker himself, and the Re-Animator remake is in Yuzna's completely capable hands. Same with In the Mouth Of Madness - Carpenter seems to be re-making his own film, so despite how unnecessary it may be, at least you know Uwe Boll doesn't have his hands in it.

The Red Sonja remake has Rose McGowan. Enough said. The original movie was in a desperate need of an un-make anyways, I suppose a re-make will have to do.

I don't really see the point in being angry over this; most of these movies were utter crap to begin with - despite how entertaining they may have very well been - so it's not as though we're ruining masterpieces or anything. Yes, it's just another cash-in trend by the entertainment industry - try not to be too surprised. But each of these movies is an opportunity to further refine a film's style. True, most of them will fall quite flat of this opportunity, but if a few good ones come of it, I don't think it's worth being pissed off as though anyone with something to do with the movie really gives a in the first place. :p
