I did this back in the day (90's) at Lawrence Heights Community Center & Amesbury Park Community Center. I got paid by North York Parks & Rec. but the shop was free for the kids of the neighborhood (the neighborhoods are known for crime). I mainly focused on hip hop music back then though.

Aside from thefamilyumbrella blog in my sig and a Facebook page, nope, not yet.

Stilez, that's the end that I'm working toward. I'm playing connect-the-dots with some high schools in the area, getting hooked up with the right people. Figure the government will soon be the only company with any real money, good time to get funding for community-based programs.

At $380 for students who register for the entire week, it works out to $15.20/hour.

That includes a homecooked, organic lunch each and every day.

If I charged anything less I wouldn't be much more than a glorified babysitter - and taking into considering that my usual rate is $35/hour for single lessons, this is a pretty fair deal.

I'm working on the non-profit end of things as well, as it's always been part of my plan for this school. But until I can obtain some sort of funding to help sustain that end of things, I do still have to eat and pay the bills.

Make sense?

does now! it's too bad they didn't put that info in the article

just looking at it from a pr angle...you notice things like this after studying it for 3 years :p anywho congrats on the exposure!

...and VDub, this is getting a bit on the personal side of things, but since you're so persistent in your query...truth be told, I had a somewhat public, Frankie Wilde-worthy meltdown (minus the hearing loss, and mostly related to longstanding, unresolved family issues) while under my old DJ name, which is why I've retired it and don't reference it any more when promoting myself - it's just simply a part of my past that I would prefer to leave behind. Once I got my bearings back, I sought counseling, picked up Yoga and Meditation, changed my diet, drastically cut back on the drink and drugs and have been leading a generally stable and contended life ever since. Hell, some crazy woman even thought that I cleaned up well enough to be worth marrying! Gotta love a happy ending...

I never really made much of a name for myself in the T.O. scene, so you probably wouldn't know my old handle even if I told you - I played at and threw a few parties in town, and at long-defunct clubs such as Area 51 and Film (where the Basement currently resides), did a couple of E-Space gigs and was regularly on the bill at the old Destiny Fridays. I spent a lot more time playing around southern Ontario - Kingston (which once had a kickass rave scene), Guelph and the like, outdoor fests like the OM parties, and a few times a year traveled out to play raves and club nights in Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria.

The 3,000 person rave was out on the west coast, and the 1,000+ capacity nightclub/big name gigs were overseas, so you won't find any local reference to them. That's about all I'm going to offer - if you're still curious, you'll have to do the legwork yourself... ;)

Ya mon! Also planning on bringing in extra sound for this year's ComeUnity Festival - I think that it's going to get bigger every year, if the vibe at last year's was any indication.

(Dtox is a freaky-freak on the ones and twos, pass it on...)

If I had a kid of that age, I would DEFINITELY encourage them to go to Westside Wax :)
