As im going to buy a new laptop, i m wondering if its cpu is enough to produce or work on various music production programms... (like ableton for example)...
Is a dual core 2,5 and 4 gb ram enough?:conf:

what else should i look for a good machine?

I have 2.8 GHz and 1 GB of RAM and I am fine most of the time. I use Ableton + Reason + Native Instruments and Korg software.
Subtle
Thats enough, i have the same power on this machine, and ive never runned out of power yet.
And its a stationary.

I have a vintage 2004 system.

P4 processor.
2.8 Ghertz.
1 Gig of RAM.
128 Megs of PCI (NOT express, sadly) graphics memory.
EMU 0404 soundcard.

I always run out of CPU on my projects... it's the biggest reason why I write so few finished tracks.

all these systemes you are mentioning are pc's... not macs? right?
so dual core 2,5ghz should work perfect...:D
jupiterone
imac 2.8 core2duo
4gb ram

no problems
Mr.Mystery
All of it.

I have a PentiumD 3.0 and I ALWAYS run out of CPU.

I think any decent Core2duo should be suffice. But if you have the money I'd go quicker if possible.

I share in your pain.

As soon as I can I'm going quad-core, 4GB with PCI Audio.

Low Profile
2.4Ghz Core2Duo, 2 gigs memory, I can run an entire track in Ableton without freezing anything (usually consisting of 6-7 synths, 2 drum samplers and 2-3 FX per track).
If it's a real core2duo and not Celeron 2 or something like that it should work like a charm
Subtle
Processors are getting so heavy these days that RAM and Harddrives are starting to be the bottlenecks of our systems.
