Because, quite frankly, a large portion of Americans don't care. There is a significant portion who do, but lots don't. For those who do, it's as easy as checking it out online (if we're being media-censorship crazy let's look at China, not America/Western Nations).
You'd be highly mistaken if you though Britain didn't cover news from many angles.
Now it's your turn to explain Stalin.
EDIT: alt, on second thought, I don't really have the time nor the desire to read what your opinion on him is. I respect your right to state it (free speech), but I think Dervish made a good, albeit sarcastic, point that you've not acknowledged:
