"Commercial", just like "popular" is quite stupid term to use when discussing music since most people use it in derogative way (and they're often wrong since a lot of great music is commercial in a way - Underworld, The Prodigy, Pink Floyd...). So if I'd list some of my favourite commercial songs, most people would say I'm full of because the list would look something like this:
Underworld - Two Months Off
The Prodigy - Firestater
Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy
Portishead - Machine Gun
...
What you really want us to do is to list some god awful ty tracks that became popular (or commercial) just because the general crowd has an awful taste in music. Then my list would look something like this:
Dance 2 Trance - Power Of American Natives (hehe)
Hercules & The Love Affair - Blind
Peter, Bjron & John (or something like this) - Young Folks
Robert Miles - Children

its just a phrase, 'guilty pleasure'
what i mean is a type of song that you would normally find cheesy but you like it.
im not literally feeling guilty about it :)
@sljiva,
i think you defintetely can use the term commercial to describe a tunes sound and people will know what you mean by it.
its not easy to define in words what makes it commercial but to me (and im sure a lot of other people) its easy to notice one.
the tunes i put have a commercial sound but not in a negative wayl just the way they sound is commercial |
