I'm not even a big boxing fan and I've seen so many ridiculous officiating calls in boxing over the years it's not funny.
I saw a kickboxing match a few years back live where the local house fighter was getting his ass kicked and he was out cold with a glassy eyed look for three straight rounds and it was never called.
Officiating is a human error sport. There are going to be approximately the same percentages of bad officiating calls in any combat sport and you can try and use better qualified refs (but he is one of the best and look what happened, and there are people who swear by Shim and I think he should be locked up when he lets stars do everything but die to give them a chance to come back).
Yes, perhaps some politicians may not understand, but in all the debates in every state, it has never come up once. People that ignorant of the subject matter usually aren't seeing a Pete Sell vs. Matt Brown undercard fight. And when it comes to commissions being leery, they are the ones who pick the refs.
This is an issue and the commissions really need to do a better job on both officiating and judging. Same bad judges back time-after-time. |

you just have to look at who sells more pay per views. ;)
hint: boxing isn't doing so well in that regard.
hint 2: do you ever know what you are talking about?
didn't think so. |

ok, but we are not talking about what you like, only what has been killing boxing in terms of popularity.
i went to see the holt vs bradley unification fight at the bell center this weekend (omg zzzzzzzzz) because i got free tickets. The capacity is 21 500 for the venue and there was maybe 5 000 people tops. The UFC sold out at the same venue for it's upcoming card there in 5 minutes. (no joke 21000 tickets gone in 5 minutes, many of them at 500$ a piece.)
do the math.
real fighting is kicking boxing's ass right now. You might find it boring, but their skill is much more rounded than a boxer's. Boxing is crooked and one dimensional.
ps mexicans love boxing i forgot.:p |

FOTY2008 was Israel Vasquez vs Rafael Marquez.
Manny is a great boxer but he isn't the only reason I watch boxing. There are definitely other boxers out there that have plenty of skill and worth watching. In my eyes Rafa's brother, Juan Manuel, beat Manny early in the year.
I want to see Floyd vs the Pacman though in 2009.
