if you are a part of the elevate program, did you get the email with 30% off code? Just wanted to see if it was sent out to all members.

nope, no email yet

Virgin is known to send out emails with a promo discount on a per member basis.

THe promo code tends to work once and that's it.

With all the money I give Virgin, I better get something soon. I would easily have free trips on JetBlue or Southwest by now!!!

Their elevate program isn't so great so far. It's by cost and not by number of trips/legs and becaue I choose to get tickets from them when they are discounted/cheap, I get penalized, although I've flown with them a billion times already.

Coolest planes and atmosphere, but JetBlue is still the most comfy w/ bigger seats/legroom and a lot more channels on the TV. And the TV changes channels fast and not super slow like Virgin. Plus you get the major networks.....lame that you don't get any on Virgin....it had FOX on there, but now it just shows movie trailers on what used to be the Fox station on the planes. I was pissed during the NFL NFC Championship game when I flew on Virgin thinking I could watch the game while flying, only for it to be ing movie trailers instead of FOX. And it's been that way everytime I've flown on it since!

The cool-factor of Virgin is fading away fast...and with a lot of peeps I have talked to who were blown away with them at first.

so this code needs to be redeemed by me and me only? or any member can use but it will only work for that one time.

If im not going to use it(which is unlikely) I'd rather it not go to waste...
catch is it has to be booked by april 7 for travel april 15-june 15. 30% off west coast to east coast is $60+ off!

only time i flew with them was feb 2008 because at the end of 2007 they had a buy 1 get 1 free offer so i got roundtrip from LAX-SFO for $60 after all taxes etc.

i have heard that Virgin is really good with customer service. PLUS, i dont know about your email, but mine was sent because I HAD NOT FLOWN VA for a while...SO if you got the same message, you beat them to the punch and reserved before your code arrived. I'm sure they will take care of you, or at least give you some complimentary drink tickets for your flight! :-)

Eh, the non-huge airlines all have similar customer service quality. Southwest, Virgin, Jetblue,e tc....

Well that sucks, I am flying Virgin for the first time next week and was thought it was a full service TV? Is that TV just movie pay per view channels? or does it have ESPN, CNN, etc...
DaveT
Their entertainment system, called RED, is cool overall.

It does have real TV. Dish Network. It's like 18-20 channels maybe. But no national networks (so no ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, etc). It did have Fox, but now just shows movie trailers (I think trailers for movies you can purchase to view on the plane. Think there are two channels like this on there now). Note, that when going between LA and SF, seems abotu 1/3rd of the channels don't have reception...including all the ESPNs...!

In comparison, JetBlue has like 36 channels, and I haven't encountered reception issues other than at normal times (bad storm, plane turning, etc). And it has the national networks (the New York version...so you get local NYC news :p) Jetblue's screen is smaller, but much clearer, too.

Virgin America's system has other things though. A lot of music for free and for purchases. JetBlue has a ton of XM stations.

It does have a lot of games. YOu can pull out a cabled remote our of your armrest to control teh TV, but flip it over and it's a gamepad with a full keyboard. Note most of the games do suck...and DOOM is unplayable. :p

Has PPV movies which you have full control over.

Screen is touchscreen.

You can order food/drinks right through the screen and swipe your credit card right there in your seat.

You can setup an IRC chatroom and have people from diff seats from all over the plane be in the room. So if youa re a part of a group that's split up, you all can chat while flying in a chat room.

Starting to see Wi-Fi available.

Power ports at each seat.

In the end, Virgin'a RED entertainment thing has soooooooooooooo much potential and had a great start, but is falling flat on its face, IMO. It's slow to respond to things I want it to do, channels don't work, they lack channels, etc etc.

Not complaining a whole lot about what Virgin offers as it's more than most other airlines, but just feel that with a little more polish and care over the TV offerings, it could leave every other airline in the dust.

On other thing...for some reason, I get more uncomfortable in their seats faster than other airlines. Maybe it's less cushion with allt he electronics being used or something or just ow it's design, I dunno....but something I've personally noticed.

I'm sure you'll be blown away the first (few) times. But I've flown them a whole ton since they launched as I go between LA and SF at least twice a month.
