dunno why everybody is picking on PvD's sets? His Set @ TE was nearly the same and nearly everybody loved it (ok maybe there weren't so many americans *lol).
Armin or the others havn't been playing so totally new stuff either.

but I like the tracks (Barry Jay - Infused, Orla Feeney - Comic Strip, PvD ft. Johnny McDaid - Home; all are not released yet, Reverse - Distant Destiny : Armin played it too.
the transformer track is quite good too (Cellec vs. Ersa - Bold). He only had 50 min. so why always complaining?

The flow and buildup were inexistant, the mixing is uninspiring boring generic, mecanic & all over the place and those are the most terrible live keybordstrings he has ever performed. He got only one hour and should have adapted the set set to that format. And let's not start with the cheese.

maybe for you. I like his style b/c it's not the normal play the next track from the next cd etc. stuff in full lenght. and ok if you are trying to play keyboard live then sometimes you don't hit the right keys.
and I'm saying it again. ableton is not that simple as it sounds if you wanna do the stuff he is doin.
show me one guy who did it better. there was no extraordinary set at WMC 09 for me - but the girls *lol

All I was saying,
I have heard many PVD sets and this was my least favorite. don't get me wrong - I have heard set's far worse.

This just bored me in tracks and mixing.

Damn, again you heard somewhere keyboard strings in Simon Patterson - Thump!!! Did you ever heard original track??? Or at least download Armin's set ans listen it. ALL ORIGINAL SOUNDS IN THUMP, PVD HADN'T ADD ANYTHING TO THAT TRACK!!!

Strange, but Astral Projection, Nu NRG and many other artists hit right keys all the time, maybe just PvD has curved hands? And i'm not the one person who said his live keyboard is the worst live i've ever met. Terrible like on TE.

If it's so hard, and there is no people who do it better, maybe let him play on vinyls? He did it good. I remember those awesome times, when he played on vinyls and CDs. He was one of my favoritest DJs among Blank & Jones, Cosmic Gate. Also many people think the same, that his best sets where in 2003. Much energy, almost trance music, same BPM 144. With ableton cames stupid mashups, hate that , just making one mess with vocals, sounds, beats.

Now he can put different tracks which even do not fit to each other at all. For example Funkagenda + Zombie Nation (terrible bootleg) and Ferry Corsten track with terrible TERRIBLE KEyboard strings. PVD Really don't have ears! LOOOOOL. My mum finished musical school with play on piano, she would definitely says that man can't produce music with such cacophony at his live performances. But i see, that he plays now more trance music than year ago, i even haven't downloaded his sets last year at all. Also i noticed that he's in war with Armin, and on principle doesn't play his track at all. Because now Armin number 1. Poor PvD, when he was on top, he put number 1 on every poster, when he became no more number 1, he said, all those stupid rankings have no sense.:D No respect for that man, he can't loose. He can surely forget about that number one, the same as Tiesto. Tiesto's new tracks now allmost is the same as Britney Spears, pop music, last good track was Dance For Life, after that cames pop. Armin at least plays his vocal trance, which sometimes are boring, but better than PvD and Tiesto for sure. Now John O'Callaghan for me much higher than those guys. And i don't understand for what he played last track 7 Nation Army? Funny sets, PvD, please throw away your keyboards, you look and sound so terrib;le with it, you're not Giuseppe Ottaviani, don't forget it!!! And what the point to play What The stupid track ,which was already overplayed by every DJ a year ago?

Besides 6th track is awesome.

Paul van Dyk
keyboards-->3/6 (
style-->4/6 (2004 was the best year i think Nature One 2004 amazing set the best so far)
mixing[/b[-->4/6 (ableton :P)
[b]mashups
-->3+/6 (great idea but you must know how to do it WTF+Zombie Nation was nice)
live gigs-->5/6 (awesome tension and performence)
overall-->4+/6

Paul back in 2003 & 2004...:( amazing years

I see that DJmag top100DJ reflects real things with a few years latency. Tiesto was good in 99-2000, PvD was at top 2002-2003 (in 2004 i downloaded terrible set paul_van_dyk-galaxy_in_ibiza-sat-16-07-2004, from that set his style changed, my friends couldn't beleive it was his set, they know him from Mayday, Nature One sets). I recorded and was waiting for every his set at Mayday, Loveparade and Nature One, which all was broadcasted by Viva. For me his best set is @ Energy 2003, Zurich. I can't forget and stop to listen it. But Armin was best in 2005-2007. Now more vocal trance too many vocals and moments without beat to everybody sing. Blank & Jones also where the best for me from the begining till 2006. Many awesome trance track + hardtrance, which i like so much. Now they also changed style to more electro. So for now my favorites John O'Callaghan number 1 (awesome productions and sets), Sean Tyas, Aly & Fila also good enough sometimes, Markus Schulz, Cosmic Gate (early was best in hardtrance, now best in progressive trance)
