i watched ER with my mom as a teenager, i watched up until the bald guy got his arm chopped off by a helicopter, then a few episodes later, another helicopter blew up and fell ontop of him. after that i said it was ing ridiculous.

Stupid NBC... apparently "series finale at 8/7 central" means "teaser at 8/7 central, actual series finale at 9/8 central"...

Very true, I should never have said that. I have Seasons 1-4 + 6 basically memorized, and know Season 7 pretty well too. Nothing on television has ever come close to the writing of Aaron Sorkin on The West Wing.

This does... and surpasses it.

Meh - don't get me wrong, good show. But the writing of Aaron Sorkin and John Wells is terribly hard to beat.

Also, pkc... I'm sorry there aren't aliens and spaceships, but good drama doesn't need to have make believe to be compelling. ;)

i agree. the writing in the west wing is much better than the wire.

You must be thinking of Grey's Anatomy...

ER has an ensemble cast, but is definitely a drama. Also, they're doing a feature right now on former stars and guest stars, and wow.

Steve Buscemi
Susan Sarandon
Don Cheadle
George Clooney
Sally Field
John Leguizamo
Forrest Whitaker
Maria Bello
Bradley Whitford (Josh from West Wing)
Richard Schiff (Toby from same)
Jorja Fox (also on West Wing)
Ewan McGregor
Ron Rifkin
Thandie Newton
Gabrielle Union
Kirsten Dunst
Mena Suvari
Danny Glover
Lucy Liu
Juliana Margueles
Noah Wyle
Uncle Jesse

Kind of impressive, actually.

you must be confusing ER with the law n order franchise :p now THAT's a real drama. no love-interest sub-plots to fill the (increasingly large) gaps in the medical drama component. its not bad by a long shot, but i still think its a soapie :p

lol dude, it's not a show about the cases (a la House) - it's a show about the toll that the ER takes on the doctors who work there.

Also, the Darfur episodes brought attention to a conflict that would have been a footnote in the US.

And it can't be a soap, because the principal writer is the same guy who co-wrote (and directed) the majority of episodes for The West Wing... and if you call that a "soapie" I swear to God I'll cross the international dateline and punch you in your whorish mouth. :)
