Complete noob here too both Mutek and Montreal. Wondering if any locals or Mutek vets could offer insight on good places to stay for the festival?
The official housing listed on the Mutek site looks like a really good deal, but I'm guessing that probably fills up very quickly and might already be too late...
thanks in advance :) |

it is close to everything you want it to be to. It is clean, no frills, but if you are on a budget this might be a solution.
hotel rooms in this town during festival season are expensive. If you want something nice, you will have to pay a lot more. Also don't guess, contact mutek and find out before assuming. It is better to book all of these early (even the nicer hotels) so you can:
a)assure you get a room somewhere
b)get the best deal.
if you are really on a budget there a a few youth hostels, but personally i would not do that type of thing. |

I can probably go somewhere around $150 USD a night.
The spaces advertised on the Mutek site were like $60 USD a night though with lots of amenities. |

Buy your hotel on priceline.com
Do the name your own price, and put your star level and your budget in there. I usually get 3*+ hotels for about $80 USD. |

These are your six choices.
Brossard
Dorval Airport Area
Laval
Longueuil
Montreal
Pointe Claire
5 of them are suburbia. I'll let you guess which one you should pick... |

I think we are going to do the Mutek weekend package deal which puts us at the Quality Hotel downtown Montreal (works out to $116/night canadian)
does anyone have any experience with that place, good or bad? |

| It is a chain budget hotel. If you have been to one, you have been to them all. |

| I bid $50 US for a 3 star in Montreal and got the Delta Montreal. Pretty amazing deal in my opinion. |

| stay at Econolodge like smellyback said. That's what I also suggest every year. It's cheap ($100- a night), it's 5 min walk from the main venue (metropolis). it's 1 minute walk away from a metro station to get to piknic on Sunday. you're not coming here to sleep anyway right?! |

I dunno how you found that, just looked and the lowest they have is $162 a night there...
might try the priceline route
so Metropolis is the main venue this year? that would definitely help me figure out a good area...
thanks |
