I've been listening to R&B, Hip hop, Rock, and Top 40 lately

Yes, you read that title right. The person who used to talk so much sh*t about that kind of music, doesn't listen to EDM much anymore.

I don't know if it's because the EDM that I've been hearing the past couple of years just sucks, or if I'm just tired of the scene (or both), but I've been listening to the radio a lot lately, and I'm actually enjoying it.

Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of garbage on the radio, but after listening to more R&B, hip hop, rock, and top 40 lately... I feel a new sense of life. I'm actually hearing songs about things that are going on in my life right now... or things that I want to be going on in my life... and I feel like I can relate to a lot of the songs.

With EDM, I almost feel like it was pulling wool over my eyes. I would sort of "escape" into the music and escape from problems (ie money, career, health, etc) rather than dealing with them (if that makes any sense). I would listen to EDM, and just hours would go by, and when I turned the music off, I would come back to reality without accomplishing anything.

Even though I still like some EDM (older stuff), I've actually sort of built an animosity towards it. I kind of associate it with drugs. For example, the last time I went to an EDM club (not going to mention a venue), I stayed completely sober all night, maybe 1 or 2 drinks. I had one acquaintance come up to me and tell me these exact words: "You only live once, do some drugs so you can have more fun. You're so lame. You're not an old lady". A couple other acquaintances (same night), told me I looked bored and offered to sell me pills. If one more person came up to me and told me I should take drugs, I was going to go off!!

I just don't enjoy going to these clubs/events anymore. It's so unmotivating to be around drugs all night. I've been in this scene for almost 9 years now, and I think I'm done (maybe go out if it's a special event).

I felt like I had to make a thread about this. The main thing that concerns me is the friends I have made throughout the years. I don't want to lose my friends because I'm not into the scene/music anymore. :( I want to go out and support my friends (whether they are DJ's or promoters), but at the same time, I don't have it in me to go out every other weekend like I used to.

Well, that's all.

LMAO!!! No, I swear it's not an April fools thing!

Well, it started off by listening to Ryan Seacrest on my drive to work in the mornings. And ya, the fact that there is no more Leykis on the drive back home, leaves me with no choice but to listen to other things lol.

the house version is cool. :D

the Ryan Seacrest show aint so bad. i just don't like listening "Ryan's Roses"... how they help catch cheating guys. I feel embarassed for the guys that get caught.

thats pretty interesting.... no more mauro? i like the no drugs part, but i have never been into that aspect. i listen to all music tooo but just happen to get a better feeling from edm and i guess pink floyd... hopefully you dont turn away for good because there are still good producers producing quality tracks, just fewer and further between.
pointer
well, I can imagine that lately its more of an association rather than musical preference.

Your post (plus my own knowledge of you, girl) reeks of association with EDM rather than the music itself.

Honestly, all music works like this.

And I would bet that listening to other things is healthy (obviously). I listen to all kinds of stuff while at home and in my car. ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, etc.

stuff with lyrics and melody. I can't personally stand the pop of today - so that takes some desperation on my part to even get into (when there is so much older, better music out there to devour).

But its understandable. I'd be worried if all you listened to was EDM.

My other guilty pleasure is hip hop from '85 to about '95. So good...
