Ugh I know seriously!!! The last time I went there a couple months ago... it was terrible. Instead of focusing on the music (I think it was Droog & Troy Pierce), I was focusing on dodging washers and other crackheads.

Main reason why I dont listen to trance anymore, It does put you in the position of escape with very little thought input, it puts blinders on you with no enlightment. And I guess thats why many have "graduated" from trance, to slower tempo stuff with more space like techno and deep house, music that lets you think a bit and helps pass time enjoyably. Earlier, I said trance has the attributes and dynamics of pop music, which is part of why its famous, but techno and deep house allow you to actually think, even though the energy from it is still fairly normalized throughout (very few breakdowns.) With that said, you don't have to stop listening to EDM to be able to focus on life, just change things up, as everyone has mentioned there is plenty of good music out there in other genres. And more than likely even if you stop one thing, you will replace with something else to occupy your mind. There is always television, the computer, cellphones/texting, we seem to attach ourselves to something at all times, and neglect more important things, usually something human or natural. This is why I talk about enslavement...we are truly enslaved by technology and other materials that are not of natural existence or purpose.
Oh, I graduated from trance to the "dark side" many years ago :p

Ok, to make it simple (again)...
I don't like going to events, clubs, bars, lounges, hotel parties or whatever else that caters to EDM anymore... because unfortunately, a majority of people are ed up either on drugs or wasted off alcohol. I don't want to spend my nights or weekends at these events anymore, because I don't enjoy being around it. I don't want to have meaningless conversations with people over loud music. I'm not bashing anything... I'm stating a fact about the EDM scene (not the drug scene) is not my style anymore. I'm willing to not go to these events anymore and miss out on all my old favorite DJ's and producers (maybe I'll go out a couple times a year if it's really worth it - if it's a DJ/producer that I really respect and can't miss). I'll still listen to it at home once in a while... but I'm not going to spend my weekends to see DJ's at events, clubs, bars, lounges, hotel parties or whatever else anymore.
Hope that made sense and you don't go off on rants anymore... putting me (and my friends who posted in this thread) down.
nobody put you down..nice way of reversing the issue. And what youve stated above is not what you originally said and came off saying...only reason i responded like i did. And rants...lol why do you think i even responded in the first place ? Somebody i dont know who....was ranting on about how edm this and edm that and she cant stand to be around people who say the dj did a good set and such..really.

after all this, it seems you're just not feeling the groove, or the vibe..
that's all.
sorry to hear, it'll come back.

I think you should go to EDC, Julia. It's going to be a wicked good time :D

I am getting jaded too and it has nothing to do with drugs. It's all the BS associated with clubbing, high ticket prices, nowhere to sit down, too big of rude crowds running into you on the dance floor... it goes on. There is plenty of new music that I like but even when I go see the producers who make it, they tend to play all this stuff I DON'T like instead of the tracks I do. I'm starting to say I'd rather stay home and listen to a set I know I'll like than pay a ton of money for a set I might not.
There are some total exceptions to the rule like Anjunabeats @ WMC this year, $30 tickets, plenty of seating and not too crowded, polite staff, amazing sound and lighting and DJ sets, these kind of parties keep me going but when I'm expected to pay twice the price for half the quality I'm starting to scoff. Maybe I need to keep sticking to more underground-type parties.

i think the same could be said about everything in life. (ie). Driving, I used to love driving aimlessly around town, out of town, canyons, highways; but now, I need a purpose. I loved changing to 5 or 6 gears gears but as I'm getting older (31 now) I want a chickomatic (automatic). Its just the way things are. When your young you say I never want to leave yet you end up leaving because it gets old. Same goes with the music and the EDM scene, I stopped partying back in 2000. Before then I was all over the place, after 2000, I noticed things where changing; since then, in order to preserve the love for events, music and people I started to go sparingly (sp?). I can tell you, I haven't gone to an event since fright EDT in Richmond, I plan on going to one this year, just not sure which.
Life; it just happens.

i'm so sorry to hear that the club on vine has ruined your love for the music. i also go to avalon but always try to stay away from the usual laundromat area. you just need to know where to hang out so you can enjoy the music.
but of course, the only club that most washers haven't totally invaded is KING KING. rarely will you see them and everybody is there to have a great time.
well, we just never saw you there. :/
and i'm sure everybody here listens to other types of music. we need variety in our lives. if not, life will be boring.
but i'm sure someday, you'll be back and will be more appreciative of the dark side ;)
