Dogs at the Work Place (pg. 5)

Let me relax and have a glass of whiskey to feel comfortable at the office (like how it used to be allowed) and i will have no problem tolerating a dog in order to make someone else feel comfortable.
Tolerance is a 2 way street. |

I personally love dogs, including dogs in the office, and I tend to think that if any employer really has to worry about losing 15 minutes of employee productivity on account of petting or playing, then it's a sign of much bigger institutional problems. I lose that much time taking a dump on some days.
I'm not sure I believe the statistics about absenteeism or "relationships", but I could definitely see pets as being one element of a "fun" workplace which would probably prevent at least a handful of "mental health" days.
Obviously there are some industries, like retail or manufacturing, where this just won't work; and the pets have to be well-behaved and not run around like idiots barking and ting everywhere; but outside of the issues I don't see the harm. |

I have a bottle of Bailey's in my office to have with my coffee. No wonder I'm still drinking coffee at 3:00 p.m. My boss knows its there and he doesn't care....hell, sometimes he even has a shot. |

Dogs are great and they just make things better in general. You have to remember that most of the time the dog is sleeping under your desk anyways. You take them out at lunch for a tiring run. Play with them on breaks but in general they are sleeping or lying down. |

it's a great idea, but would need obvious restrictions (based on dog behaviour - the dog 'interview' is great)
Pet Therapy (bringing in dogs and cats) in hospitals is the most successful inpatient program for reducing the stress levels of patients, the same principle would definitely apply to the workplace |

Careful... alcohol in the work place is illegal... and it doesn't matter if it's in an office too. |

Well...its been this way in this office since before I even started working here....and I've been here for over 13 years....so I'm not too concerned. |

I love animals but I still believe that a place of work should be a place of work and there needs to be a certain amount of professionalism in the workplace. I don't think having pets at the workplace is professional.
If I'm allowed to bring my dog into the office then why can't someone else bring their cat, rabbit, ferrit, pig, or whatever? I can just imagine businesses turning into zoos because everyone wants their pet with them. |
