NYTA PARTY - Friday - Sept 25th / Sunday - Sept 27th - 2009 (Fri 8pm / Sun 8pm+)
Thank you for all of the comments so far...
I wanted to update everyone and get some more feedback.
We were discussing headline entertainment. I received quotes for both Infected Mushroom and Astral Projection.
Many of you guys already know what they cost and understand where that places us.
For a single night w/ A.P... we would need a minimum of 300 people paid ($30 ea) to cover artist costs. (That's including airfare and hotel)
I.M. would require at least twice that. (of course they would do better, but could they draw 600 people?)
The ticket earnings should cover the entertainment expenses.
Because the location is 90 Miles north of NYC, our "local" turn out is questionable. My goal is to build-up the scene enough, so that we can have multiple gatherings each year.
I feel "strongly" about partying with friends to the music I love in a professional, safe and non-corporate environment. The experience will speak for itself if we can get through this first one.
QUESTION: What if we only booked Tri-State DJ's for this event? Would "anyone" show up?
If this was simply a 48hr NYTA Party - (20+ DJ's) outdoors on a lake upstate from you...
Would you go???
If we used local entertainment:
- We could focus our budget on "Enhancing the Environment" (More Sound, Lights & Effects)
- The tickets would be much cheaper.
The original details:
Friday - Sept 25th / Sunday - Sept 27th - 2009 (Fri 8pm / Sun 8pm+)

This comfortable area will serve as your group’s base camp / retreat all weekend long.

NYTA is home to some great (and rather large) names. you should contact Breakfast, Eco, Mike Saint Jules, Thomas Datt since they're all members here (and i'm sure i'm forgetting others).
have you organized any events in the past? |

Hey,
I have put on quite a few club events and large outdoor parties here upstate.
The business aspects are already being managed by other teams.
I am more or less giving NYTA an opinion on how this event is booked. I want you guys to to be able to go to a 3day open air fest that is only 1.5 hours away... and party the whole weekend with each other.
Does this sound like something you guys would be interested in?
Let me know.

How different is the Dubstep crowd? I know the music well.. I'm just wondering what that scene is like... I don't plan on having hiphop or rap..
Would it be worth having a separate party for them on another stage? I have 5 available :)

To be honest, a lot of these guys play smaller 500 capacity rooms. It's always hard to get people out of the city. Bringing some of these names just across the rivers to Brooklyn or Jersey already makes a huge difference. As for dubstep, I don't think you should assume that "if you play the music, the people will come"... If you are not familiar with the scene, you probably don't know promoters, partygoers, clubowners, etc., of that scene. Lack of any of those will result in a stage with no partiers dancing to it... Just my thoughts though! :)
Clubs like Love and Sullivan Room and Rebel, etc., have all taken years of patience just to pick up and get people to start going through their doors. So doing something so sudden as a weekend festival an hour and a half away might take that same patience of a few tries. However, if that lineup's right and it makes the people's jaws drop, you might be onto something good here ;) |

Techno / House / Trance is not that big in upstate NY..
I will do my best with creative marketing/promotions to draw some extra people to the evening parties.
It's mostly up to the NYC scene though.
This is our chance to have a great time without police or a "club" kicking us out.
This event is for us... Ive been driving to NYC to see DJ's for years... I'm hoping to give you something really fun to do away from the concrete.
Keep the ideas coming.
Thanks!
