I dont really trust the cheap vaios.. there ssomething unnerving about them, dunno, like they're gonna break in half

If you go Vaio, I suggest getting a Sony card for an easy 300 credit back. Also, there is 4% cashback from various sites like live.com or ecoupon.com. Plus, you're not limited to buying it from Sonystyle. You save 337.96 but you have to sign up for a CC.

Depending on how long you want to wait, there are always good deals for laptops on all the deal sites.

I'm talking...

Lenovo IdeaPads for $500

Specs:
- Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T6400 ( 2GHz 800MHz 2MB )
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 64
- 15.4 " WXGA TFT with integrated camera LCD Glossy 1280x800
- 4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz
- 320GB 5400
- DVD Recordable (Dual Layer)
- Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 5100
- Bluetooth Version 2.0 + EDR

Getting cheap Dell's that meet your specs is pretty easy too.

nah, I want a bit more bang than that. I'll be doing some audio stuff and just want a little bit more bang than that. But I'm thinking of probably going with a more expensive Vaio.

I'm definitely not signing up for a credit card. As it is, I'm 23 and have 4 credit cards that I never use. :p

Nah, I can get more for less if I go with the Vaio VGN FW-390

2.4ghz core2duo
320gig hd at 7200rpm
4gigs DDR2 RAM 800mhz (expandable to 8gig)
blu-ray rom
full-hd display
Vista 64bit
16.4" screen

for 1229.

On the SR the closest thing was for 1339 or something and it was the exact same except the RAM wasn't expandable and there wasn't a blu-ray drive.

My only major complaints with this is the size and the disk-drive isn't a slot-loading one :/
Ted Promo
and it has decent ATI Radeon graphics with 512mb memory.

Processor's too slow and the graphics on it suck :p

I'm also not too keen on the color choice.
