| I thought they were remodeling it, too. but, now that remodeling job is done, and smoking is not allowed in that room. |

Let me clarify some things here since there seems to be some confusion and speculation.
first of all,
the smoking room has not remodeled. It was open last Torq April 16th with B33SON hosting an electro theme in there.
second,
daveT is absolutely correct. There is no indoor smoking anywhere in California clubs. Even though during regular Ruby Skye 21+ and over nights, people are allowed ins and outs for smoking, at Torq unfortunately we don't, which brings us to:
third,
the reason there are no ins and outs at Torq is due to liability issues. Since its a 18+ and over night, we (Torq) are not going to jeopardize our business relationship with Ruby Skye, to allow people under 21 years of age to go out and get liquored up in their cars and come back into the club and potentially cause a problem for the Club and its employees or with the patrons attending the event. This is pretty much elementary thinking for anyone who has experience or knowledge how the nightclub industry works. This is Ruby Skye ( top 25 club in the world ), not some crappy one off bar/club where they dont care as much about these things and its all about making every single possible dollar you can, without the slightest care of liability, security and most of all, safety. We are simply not going to jeopardize that.
fourth,
The "smoking" room which no longer is a smoking room, will be remodeled into a new club room, with a complete makeover. I cant go into details exactly what this involves, but it will be Grand ..
Last i heard, they are looking to have it finished by end of May.
But don't quote me on that :)
Fifth,
We are looking into a possible solution for smoking outside, but nothing has been decided on as of right now.
Hope that clarify things..

the simple solution would be to change where the lines are, and swing the rope (or make a gate) to go down the sidewalk where people could walk out front and go to the side, but within the roped/gated off area, and smoke there and go back in. So while that our outside the venue, they are still within some boundries...
Basically like how MIghty it's outside smoking area. Shouldn't have to worry about too much late night noise from them and if they are, close the smiking area after midnight or 1am... |

that solution works fine outside Mighty or even 1015, but the side walk outside Ruby Skye is way busier of regular non clubbing people walking there due to all the hotels in the close vicinity etc, plus those places aren't 18+ either, which is a whole other story.. but yes that's general idea is what were thinking..
challenge is how not to get noise complaints and other issues that can arrise with having a small roped off or barricaded off area right outside the club. Its down town... things are more challenging there due to the hotels and its tourists etc etc..
might do a try one of these days... |

| so did they just make it a new law recently that there was no smoking allowed inside any California club because I remember smoking in a few rooms in the club maybe 3 or 4 months back... |

Thanks bud. The above point sounds awesome. I always thought they should turn that room, or even more of the upstairs into a proper 'side room'. Since they've been jamming dj's in there, might as well 'swank' it out and make it more of an appropriate spot to get down.
Looking forward to this! |

and the other big problem is the entrance to slide is right there too. At about 1 am, there are a ton of people standing outside that door. |

| where are the complaints coming from? hotels? i don't think there are any residents around, are there? |

At about 1 am, there are a ton of people standing outside that door. | Your exactly right there, you cant have the "smoking" section to the right, since thats slide's entrance and you cant do it to the left, cause thats the main entrance for general admission and guest list. so its kinda complicated and not as easy as it sounds with just putting up some ropes etc..

anyhow, we'll look into it and figure something out :)

I'm so ready for this night, and it's still weeks away. Ugh. Time to get some Menno podcasts to get ready for the madness that's to come!
Bring it on |
