Well the most common thing that iTunes does without approval is auto-syncing of the iPod. I'm pretty sure you can turn that off, but it's annoying nonetheless. I have a feeling there are other things that it does that I can't think of off-hand, but that's one of them.
I agree that Foobar isn't the best, but it is very simple.
Winamp is great, I use it for all my music playing needs. You can manage your entire library with it, auto-update new files, sort, search, and everything else just like with iTunes, but it's much faster and gives you more control over your music. , you can even manage your iPod or use a thumb drive to sync your music library with it! |

Winamp has had a library for a long while. Get with the program.

The iPod synch is actually the only thing that bothers me. It seems that you can only choose to synch or not synch at all, you can do specific tracklists but you can't do certain tracklists AND drag/drop. Very annoying.
Didn't know that about Winamp, haven't used it in maybe 4 years :p |

MPlayer sucks for straight audio. Good for video, but needs some work in a few areas. Get Songbird. |

I use itunes to play the DRM infested music I was dumb enough to buy (and am too lazy to convert to non-DRM), and Winamp for everything else. I used foobar2000 when I had a ty computer and was concerned about "saving resources"
I use VLC for video. It works well unless you want to skip around a lot on a large video file, in that case it's TERRIBLE. |
