I haven't heard this yet, but by looking at the tracklist and his set description it wasn't really your best option as this is a more mellow or summery set than what Jay usually plays. :p
You would be better off checking out older mixes, for example "Bienvenue au Le Freak Show" or Zaggazaw.
I would also recommend that you get Rob's set called Gonzo. |

Ya, this is awesome.
Track ID's at 30:30 and 48 minutes?

| I'm in! I dig the Lemos and SIS type stuff, and noticed a Lawler track on there, been listening to a lot of 2002-2003 era Lawler in inspiration for my genre challenge mix, so it'll be interesting to hear what he's up to nowadays. |

I'm so sick of Distrait that it makes me not want to download this set
But:
Sis - Sum [Bubu Mitu Recordings]
Edu Imbernon - Cieza (Daniel Marques Remix) [CDR]
Mark Asbrey & Oliver Brooks - This Is Charlie Parker [CDR]
Markus Fix - Research [Cecille]
Steve Lawler - Distrait (Livio & Roby Remix) [Systematic]
M.in & Ynk - Capetown River Boating [Weplayminimal]
M.in & Ynk - 6000 Dollars [Weplayminimal]
Makes me interested :p |

Very dynamic use of the EQs...the mixing was quite playful. Interesting timing on some of those transitions too. You used looping a lot as well, no? |
a bit of looping at some points yes. Alright, thanks for clearing up your comment. With a lot of very percussive music, you pretty much have no choice to ride the eq a lot to stay out of the red and to make it not sound like a construction boot convention in a very small dryer:p

Checked this out mainly because Woscar said "Listen to an El Freak/RJT set to hear tech house done properly". The first twenty minutes were grooving, but then I started to find all the spoken samples/flutes/"ethnic" chants too cheesy, and the beats didn't have much teeth. Put it all together and it wasn't far from the kind of Buddha Bar stuff you hear playing in Indian restaurants and new age bars where they only sell weird bottled drinks. Right at the end it picked up though, and the last five or six minutes were great. It needed more of that.
Anyway, I expect a typical Jay put-down response to this review, but I'm not stepping on your for the sake of it. I gave this a try for inspiration and these are my honest thoughts. |
:haha:
Actually i appreciate the honesty in your review. This set is quite different than a lot of what i have done before, and i can't claim to be able to please everyone by playing some music that I personally enjoy.
Thanks for the listen all of the same, and i hope at the very least you enjoyed the tandoori chicken!:p

thanks for listening, but this will not help to inspire you for that era of lawler. This is nowhere near as dark as that. You would be much better off listening to his Lights Out comps:) The remix of the lawer tune is used mostly as a beat tool.:)

| Nice stuff, different from what you usually play. Mixing was tight as a twelve year old and the flow was on point as usual. |

I enjoyed this, I can sort of understand the strange mixing, at points it seemed odd, but it kept things interesting.
For me especially cos there was quite a lot in here I had lined up to put in my next mix haha
cheers for playing my tune :) |
