Took a listen last night. Definitely some great tunes to be heard here, although it did get a bit too "ethnic" for my tastes at times. Despite that, the flow and programming were solid and mixing was flawless as far as I could tell.
Definitely made studying for finals a lot more enjoyable. :p Might throw this on my ipod and give a more attentive listen later. |

The opening vocals are so sick. |
stolen from argy ft bajka - upon ourselves (just the intro and outro edited for what i needed). The song is good, i just would not really play it in this set:)

I enjoyed this, I can sort of understand the strange mixing, at points it seemed odd, but it kept things interesting.
For me especially cos there was quite a lot in here I had lined up to put in my next mix haha
cheers for playing my tune :) |
thanks mark, and when you give me the masters of blylatz (sic?) i will play that as well:) The odd mxing was an hommage to me trying to do a ricardoesque set. Without the records that will not be out for another 2 years of course. I look forward to your set man:)

I appreciate the honest review and am glad you were able to enjoy some of it. I have been trying to do a different sounding set the last few times i put stuff up. For instance i was originally planning on doing a set that paid tribute to soma fm's secret agent channel, but trying to edit a lot of the tracks i wanted to use into being dj friendly was very time consuming. Think big band meets cool lounge meets idm, it would have been weird for sure, but hopefully i can still pull it off. Like i said before, the "ethnic" thing has a lot to do with really looking forward to seeing ricardo villalobos in the sun. I guess you can say i am also a bit bored of the pink plonk i used to play a lot. :) |

Liked this set a lot, it's definitely a bit different from your usual and you really nailed the 'ethnic tacos' part! It's got that laid back, funky latin Luciano style vibe, though I will agree with a few other posters and say that occasionally the Spanish vocals got a bit overbearing toward the end. Loved the intro with the Bajka vocal and the second song (KILLER bassline). The peak for me was probably La Mezcla, I've been hearing that song everywhere lately, even random friends who are trance-heads have been asking me about that one.
Mixing was spot-on as always, very nicely layered - programming was smooth, EQs seemed tuned properly, and there were no abrupt transitions at all - though I feel I'd be even more impressed if I was familiar with most of the songs before I jumped in...
I'm curious though, why do you say this is your best set yet? (I think it's a great set of course, just what makes you prefer this to some of the others you have done?) |

thanks man:)
i just think this set is my best one (to me) because it is such a step back from what i would consider and think that most people would expect me to play.
I was almost at a point were i was considering selling my gear and calling it a day because a lot of the music i really liked once upon a time started to feel very uninspiring to me. I spent more time playing guitar with my girlfriend then listening to dance music. I started buying a few records here and there, and slowly regained my love for edm. Bla bla bla, this is why.:)
As far as the busy mixing, it is just the way i play. I have trouble just throwing on a track and waiting for the outro to mix. These are recorded in our music room alone, i have to keep on my toes to not die of boredom.
btw most of the vocals near the end are african:p |

bump. I listened to this at least 6 times in a row at work on Monday. I was so busy that I didn't have time to switch to another TA mix lol.
Edu Imbernon - Cieza (Daniel Marques Remix) [CDR] - Love this track.
Great mix from you as usual.. it seemed like you used a lot more vocals/chants as usual but I enjoyed them. |
