It sounded especially cheese around that period '97-'99.

I suggest you start listening Trance Nation '94 and the others of this series or early Trancemasters and reconsider:

There are some great tracks made every year, but yeah def the golden age of Trance was 2000-2004 imo.
Nothing made these last two years can win the battle to these tracks:
Hemstock & Jennings vs Adam White - Reverence
Darren Tate's remix is even better but I couldn't find it on youtube.
Ace Da Brain - Tales of Dusk & Dawn (Ace's Delight Sunrise Remix)[b]
[b]Robert Miles - Children
Airbase - Escape
The Quest - C-Sharp
Anyone who listens to these titles would fall in love with Trance I think, they don't make them like these anymore.

Well whats stopping YOU from making tunes like they used to if you feel its not up to standard? :)
I think its just like in any other electronic music genre, music progresses and changes over the years. The sound 10 years ago won't sound the same now.
Im with you though, and I discovered trance when i was very young too, couldnt really appreciate it back then but I remember I used to love it when classic tunes would come on the radio. Im now into DnB but getting back into trance again...hence joining this forum! :)
