Great to finally meet you chris and as always nice pics.
On a slightly different note, I have to say I AM ING PISSED WITH THE STANDARD/COMPRESSION FOR THE ENTRY SITUATION.
There must have been 30 odd people downstairs who were not allowed in until 8 pm. No reason was given but when we got there around 6:30, the security guy downstairs said all the lists had closed 3 to 4 hours before! WTF? It wasn't because of capacity because one of our group went up in the elevator to try to blag his way past and saw it wasn't even two thirds full! People coming down also said it wasn't near capacity.Again, WTF?
Luckily we made other plans until 8pm but compression lost out on a fair few paying people and those same people were seriously pissed at the situation. Many people came, found out they weren't getting in even though they were showing security emails of them being on the list and walked away....
Sorry for the negativity but I think compression is great and the door situation was mess.

| To be fair to Compression, the capacity on the rooftop of The Standard is a little less than 200 I believe. And it doesn't look full AT ALL, I'm pretty sure it has to do with a fire code or something. I've had the same problem before with not being able to get in because they were at "capacity" and when I make it up to the top and it looks virtually empty. |

It is seriously absurd. I tried to get in and the door guy said they were at capacity. Promoter had to come down and make a big deal to get me, I looked around the rooftop and I said "THIS is capacity?" I even asked the bartenders and security upstairs and they all said that the capacity is pretty low up top.
And about the list thing, from my experience the promoter has to be VERY explicit with times/prices when they turn their list in to the door guy otherwise they just kind of go by The Standard's norm. Which, I'd imagine, is pretty ridiculous because they are pretty popular. Especially on Fridays and Saturdays. |

I hear you bas, but I don't think was anynthing to do with that - we (along with many others) asked security why no one was being let up and they didn't have a reason just that they had been told that "no one else to be allowed up, all lists closed". They had no reason to lie or not to tell everyone that it was up to capacity and then they were asked several times and they said it "wasn't because of capacity, just that no one is allowed up".
Also, when 8pm came they let in about 50+ waiting people so it can't have been about capacity if they had the space for all them, and even when those extra were up there it still wasn't evenclose to full - most of the tables were free etc.
There was definitely some BS going on - one couple were seriously kicking off at security over being on the list and not getting in and they were told told to wait as the manager of security could sort it out for them....guess what? turns out he was on vacation for two weeks and security knew it!
any way doesn't matter, just wanted to point it out because compression is a good party and don't like crap like that spoiling it for their sakes. :) |

Hey guys,
the venue has strict policy for accommodating Hotel Guests first. This is a fact of life for the rooftop. Its not a club per se where they can forecast based on a line out front and that's it.
Secondly, I question anyone's intent to show up at 6:30 p.m. and expect to get in at what is arguably one of the most popular places to be during the good weather/summer months. It is ALWAYS wise to come early to well promoted parties at popular spots that are going to have good DJs - and that have limited capacity.
That's just common sense.
I've had this same argument with some people who were upset about not getting in at Francois K (for instance) even though there were on the list. We hit capacity early at the King King (obviously). It sucks of course, because I have every intention of getting the most people in within reason - that's why I do events. I want people to hear the music we are playing.
But we have to take into account the entire context here - its an intimate spot. There are popular DJs playing - and there are hotel guests that have to be accommodated. So, The Standard makes sure there is room for overflow - not just for those that are there to party and leave.
Please keep that in mind. I suggest getting there a lot earlier for such a popular spot/party. We hit capacity at 3:30 p.m. and it was a battle all day to try to get people in for the remainder of the party.
I wish you didn't have a bad experience - I hate for that to happen. But like I state in our list sign ups, the fact that anyone who is on a list does not guarantee admission. I always state to get there early to ensure no hassles. When venues hit capacity (based on their rules), all bets are off and we have to manage according to the rules.
All that being said, I do thank everyone for their support and for those that came out. It was a fantastic time. We are all grateful for the good times and vibes.
Our next rooftop party is the Global Underground CD Release Party for Nubreed DJ Jim Rivers. I highly suggest getting there very early so you can be sure of no problems getting in of course. :D
regards,
rob. |
