Even if the intern is better than you, you just don't give interns that kind of responsibility, because it's perceived as a risk. If the intern s up, you get blamed because you made a decision that was perceived as risky. This stems from the fact that nobody knows who the hell the intern is. All other things being equal, if the intern is a well known prodigy at said job, things would be different.
