Looking at getting a mid level DSLR camera early this summer. I had been looking at the Canon 40D/50D/ Rebel T1, and the Nikon D90, and D5000.

Right now I'm leaning heavily toward the Nikon D90. It seems to offer the best of the abilities for it's price.

I'm looking at getting the camera as a body only and then investing the bulk of the cash into a single top quality lens.

Right now I'm really eyeing up the Nikor 24-70mm F2.8 for that camera as an all around kind of lens.

I'm going to use the camera primarily as an around the house/cottage deal. I realize the portability issues that can't be worked around with a DSLR. I already have a great pocket sized camera.

So with that out of the way my questions.

1. Will the Nikor 24-70mm F2.8 have enough versatility to use as an all around lens? If not, where does its weakness lay?

2. Is there some kind of flawed logic that I've used to arrive at the D90. Is there reasons why I shouldn't be looking at that camera?

3. Where's the best place to get a great deal? I've heard it's a massive no no to buy from the states despite the much better pricing. I really want the warranty, so I'm not into bringing it across the border and then having warranty hassles. Is there anywhere in the GTA that has great deals? I've heard there's some stores in Alberta that are great, to save the PST. I've also heard Anden camera is a good spot to start looking.

Any other tips or info would be seriously appreciated.

I think I just saw somewhere that Aden had the D90 on sale for $1,249.99 which you could then Price match at FS or BB.

I'll ask my friend tomorrow. He just bought a Nikon (I think D60) and knows of a few good places around.

But honestly, I've been looking around, and there isn't much price difference. Maybe $50 difference between locations...

best prices i would say Aden Camera.
vistek has good gear but the sales people tend to be pricks when you start asking them questions.
henrys is decent as well.

I'm not sure about Henry's prices as I go and buy there for convenience. I know that here in Brampton they're very open to questions and explain without rushing.

Henry is a rip off, bought my Canon 5Dmk2 from Vistek and saved on the PST (thats 300$ right there).

BTW video on the D90 sucks balls, if that's something you might be intrested in.

p.s. Canon > Nikon.

agreed.
nikon may be cheaper but canon performs better when comparing identical features.
