Is it worth getting one?i make trance/psytrance

I was considering prophet 08 also

I don't see why it would be "too cliche," unless you're planning to sit there and make supersaw patches all day.

:p

the presets are outdated, if your interested in making your own the JP-8000 is not bad a choice, but the bad thing is that it has only 2 oscillators and no unison. Your better off getting a jp8080. My advice is save and get the prophet

yes prophet looks very nice too

I had borrowed a JP8080 for a month. They are a one trick pony and are useless for anything other than supersaws. The oscillators are weaker than a cheap softsynth and the filters sound like ass. Xhip does good enough supersaws for me to not ever bother buying a JP.

I agree. Go for a Nord Lead 2 instead. they go for about the same price ...

I actually tried a nl2x and was very disappointed, it sounded so thin and lifeless.....far from what I had expected

Maybe its just the presets too...

On the other hand I tried a sh-201 and was impressed by its sound. was very raw i found, but the synth itself is a little simple, so thats why I was considering the jp8080

The JP is a great synth, it`s just a lot of other synthesizers and romplers in VST that sound like it now.

It sounds good, phat, the supersaw works well, the OSC Common section can make some unique sounds, the arpeggiator is great, it has the feedback oscilliator.

But the range of lead sounds you get from it is pretty narrow, so when you get bored of the supersaw the synth may become obsolete.

Simple, JP-8000 is a CLASSIC. A must have for a hardware studio because of its classics supersaw leads. Today it can be used for pads and backsynths/arps/plucks... Sounds nice and harmonic rich. Ilike my JP8K and will never sell it.

But it's true that a Virus does lot more things...

its great for strings, pads and even some acid stuff, atleast the JP8080 rack, which have vocoder-filter and distortion. i also liked the reverb, delay and eq section on the JP8080, the unison was ing crap on it. i dont know if the keyboard version has any of that? I liked the cold industrial bass sounds it could make too. It is to program though and Im never getting it again. Its big and ugly and the filter+amp envelope, omg those are crap! Get a Clavia Nord Rack 2X instead.

What? its just about the easiest VA synth to program ever made.

I agree the JP sounds very very plastic and the effects are really bad, but it has its place for a few sounds, more so for the feedback oscillator. Its really good for creating effects and drones etc.
