that thing is 750 watts, idk y you would want that as near field studio monitor. Also the rest of event speakers have been discontinued except for the studio precision |
The purpose for that high an output is to handle the transients without a hitch, not to be loud. (Although it's capable of playing loud with very low distortion.)
The company was purchased a while back with the purpose of creating an entirely new lineup starting with this. That's why the previous models are discontinued. |

PRO"S love the sound that comes out of them displays mids to highs beautifully and are very very clean..
love themmmm but.
cons: i would personally prefer a little more bass..
if i had a sub it may be different but i find that they dont show enough bass
price - 1300$ AUD
----
ive had them for around 8 months now.. and they are very reliable..
ive used them for parties too and they work a treat go quite loud without distortion..

i got hr824's, and one of my favorite tracks on my altec lansing hifi speakers and in my car sounds like on them.. like really uber , the kick is just turned into an ear piercing midrange ear rape. it's crazy to me to think about, how if that producer had been using these, that track probably would never of been created.
Too much low-mids, not enough bass, but then again i don't have the HRS-120 sub that goes with them.. |
Completely agree on this 100%. I owned the HR824 for several years and cannot recommend them at all. "Too much low-mids, not enough bass" is precisely how I felt. |

| What did you end up replacing them with? |

| they're usefull, they just aren't pleasant to listen to at all imo. i wouldn't get them unless you have something else to a/b with |

No problem, cheers. Sadly, I just have to take the plunge and buy a pair of monitors without having tested them beforehand...I guess I'll wait for this thread to fill up a bit more before making decisions. |

That's funny - I find the opposite - I think they sound really good for just listening to commercially produced music (especially R&B, pop, hiphop etc.) but not so great for monitoring. I used to be staunch defender of these a while back but really started to notice a muddyness in the band between mid and low, and found that most bass frequencies are over represented in lower mids.
I always knew their stereo image was exaggerated and could compensate but the bass and mid separation further causes that to be problematic. I think things have moved on and there's better out there now for the money.....so......
I've been doing an intensive shootout between all the major models at pro audio retailers and will post my findings soon, with what I found to be the best of the bunch at each price point..... |
