External Sound Card advise

Looking for any input or recommendations on these five sound cards. Looking to couple one of them with the vci-100.
PreSonus Firebox
M-Audio Fast Track Pro
M-Audio Firewire solo
AudioFire 2 or 4 |

Out of all those, the audifire is by far the best in terms of sonic quality with the firebox coming second. It (audiofire) also have a good amount of cennectivity and not too expensive.
I would say go for the audiofire 4, as the difference is only about $80 and that extra I/O could be useful on the future.

| I was curious about this exact topic. I'm looking to get into digital DJing, but I need a good external audio interface. More opinions/other recommendations would definitely be appreciated. |

| Ive had Audiofire 2 and it broke, so i got a 4 instead. Both great items, with awesome sound. Now the only thing i have to complain about id firewire technology and bus power. This is what broke my Audiofire 2 so be sure to always use the included power supply and do not bus power! |

Wouldn't that sort of thing be covered under warranty? |

| i used to use a fasttrack pro with a vci 100. Its really good. I traded it for an audio8 tho. The fasttrack pro is really good to get started on. |

i bought it over internet overseas so i couldnt really just send it. also i contacted them about it and it was not warranty, it was reckless use according to them. Though i was luckily to find a great local service shop who where willing to replace it with AF4. Great item. |

Nice, but not even close to the same pricetag and the OP initial suggestions. Also, the audiofire in terms of sonic quality is comparable to the Ultralite. |

| I own a Firebox and I have absolutely zero complaints. Easy to use, low latency, sound quality is excellent. I bought mine second hand for $200 CDN and I haven't had a single issue with it. Can't really say anything about using it with the vci-100, but it's a breeze to use with both my Novation Remote Zero and M-Audio Axiom controllers. |

Ultralite and the Audiofire are way different imo -

That's exactly what I'm saying.....
In terms of connectivity and routing options yes, but there's hardly any difference in terms of conversion and clock quality, and especially when you look at the difference in price that tiny sonic quality difference isn't justified for the extra $300!
Bear in mind the ultralite although very good piece of kit, is the most entry level motu interface they sell and a lot of people even end up doing the BLA mod to the top of the range motu units because they are not the greatest converters out there.
The audiofire is arguably the best quality prosumer interface in it's price range. Sometimes manufacturers just get it right for their class/pricerange: the focal twin monitors, the M-audio audiophile2496....the audiofire is one of those products and there simply isn't a another soundcard on the market for $250 that sounds THAT good and offers 4in/4out, all balanced, with midi I/O.
I even know a couple of small pro studios that use the audiofire 12's as their tracking interfaces as you really want to use an external clock with multiple interfaces and therefore the audiofires work out the same quality but for less cost than the same motu setup. |
