Erick Morillo is turing into Oakenfold

As much as i respect and love hearing Erick Morillo play, he has been ting the bed recently.

Dont get me wrong, his parties are still some of the best parties but it seems to me he is starting to do the Paul Oakenfold type downward spiral.

The 3 out of 4 times i have seen him in the past few months he was completely coke'd out and wasted. Vegas was the worst, but it was very noticeable at the Avalon as well. So because of his state of mind his mixing is going down hill. From looping the end of a track to buy him time (sometimes 5 ing minutes), too playing the same song 2-3 times in his set, to missing the loop completely and hearing an off key loop play over and over until he corrects it, to the song just ing ending and complete silence taking over the place for a few seconds.

Yeah to me, its pretty ing disappointing. I mean i guess i am looking to much into this, but when you are getting paid so much ing money at least try?

Either way i will still go to his parties, i will be back at the Avalon when he comes and back to Vegas for Labor Day. I just hope by this time he does a little better then before. But if he keeps on doing the same he is going to give Cokenfold a run for his money...

I actually went up to him and yelled at him for playing a track twice. I showed him my phone with some tracks that he usually plays. I then said showed my 2 fingers and said this is your second time playing this! He then said ok and tried to focus. (After playing Wippenberg - Chakalaka twice)...he also played Delerium - Silence (2009) twice as well. (From what I noticed)

I think its a good thing that he is on some uppers. There would be no way he would be able to play til 9:30 am being sober.

I still think he has the best energy out of all the house DJ's out there. I give Morillo credit for switching me from trance to house in Ibiza and ever since I pick Morillo's Tao night over Tiesto's Jet night every Memorial/Labor Day weekend in Vegas.

The guy has his problems, but don't we all. I love it when he sees security trying to kick people out then starts bumping a sick track full of bass!

As you mentioned, I'd still never miss a Morillo night (or a SHM or Guetta night). Roger Sanchez and Sander Klenenberg are up there as well for non-stop bangers...
Lostvission
Oakenfold's downfall was (oddly enough considering where im posting) California. Once he got to LA, he lost it. Movie soundtracks, hanging with John Travolta, making pop records, grew his little new haircut, the whole nine yards. I mean this isnt a bad thing really but for people who loved his sound, it was over at that point.

And lmao Morillo played the wippenberg track ? That was without a doubt the biggest track of the year hands down and most people dont know it. Every major trance dj hammered that record as well as Ingrosso, Dirty South, John Dahlback, Mark Knight, Steve Angello, Deadmau5, and now Morillo ?? There is simply no other tune in the world that all the trance djs, house djs, and progressive djs all hammered in their sets.:disbelief

I still haven't seen him, but I have the same impression of the guy. The more they charge per show, seems like the bigger the ego.

I dislike Chokenfold as much as the next person, but I have to admit that last Saturday at Rain in Vegas for Memorial, he shredded that place! I couldn't believe it. It wasn't a bad set at all. At least much better than what I've seen over the past 4-5 years.

i have seen cokenfold a couple time in the past few months and his sets are not that bad - fun dance tunes with very little trainwrecks. i think he may be coming full circle...well, lets not push it...he isnt so bad nowadays tho.

i hope i dont get bashed, but, i have seen morillo a few times in ibiza and here...and im still not that uber sold on his music. i mean, his parties are WAYYYY fun - they bring in a good crowd and everyone enjoys themsevles and its a super fun party...but his mixture of typical current dance hits with some tweaking dont put him on the top of the musical list. just a rant.

Erick has been a diva for a looooong time so nothing new there. btw, what happened with his court date for the coke arrest in Ireland? never heard any follow up news on that.

i will say that i thought his WMC set at Space Sat morning was one of the top 3 sets i've ever heard by anyone, anytime. but i'd agree overall the other times i've seen him the past 2 years he's been good but never great...

If you are on the 101 Freeway...he is Cokenfold, if you are on the 405...he is Jokenfold...if you are on the 5, we have Douchenfold. Depends on your global positioning really. If you want to get complex, you have to factor in wind and air pressure...things change up a bit.
