i view pizza as pretty much "italian food" so a glass of red wine with pizza totally goes as far as i'm concerned. but i can see the beer thing. that's more of a guy thing though.

Jeremy Parzen pointed out this shocking claim in the comments of a recent post on his blog : “…no one pairs wine with pizza in Italy! I’m sorry, they just don’t…” He added later via email, “like Italians’ aversion to dairy and fish, or coffee and savory, the pizza/beer pairing is relatively sacred… they never pair pizza with wine… wine lists in Italian pizzerie are for tourists.” (Let’s hope they’re not pairing the lackluster Peroni with that pizza.)

Guess that living next to Italy, we picked up on some of their habits :) Also with both beer and wine industry having a long history in this country we decided over the decades, centuries even which food is appropriate to pair with which drink and wine + pizza just doesnt compute :) Slaves pf tradition we are...

i always equate beer & pizza with nasty chain pizza places like dominos. a bunch of fat balding men watching the superbowl slaming bud lights and eating dominos:wtf:

beer would fill me up too much and make it so that i couldn't have that much pizza. and i can't have that.

beer makes me bloated...it's alright once in a while but i prefer it with bbq.

Also a thing to note, there are no big pizza chains over here, only individual pizzerias, and nobody watches superbowl or drinks bud lights becase we know they both suck ass :p As for beer making you bloated, that i can understand, but its not a problem with me, since i spoil myself with pizza once, at most twice a month now (first year at uni my roomate and I ate pizzas almost every day for a year, gained a load of weight as well. So not only did i eat a lifetime amount of pizzas that year i also started craving more proper food which is still what i prefer now :) )

seafood on pizza is delicious.

i just had a pizza with kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, and feta cheese for dinner... washed down with a bottle of Capital Brewery amber. :D

Pretty common here too. I used to live right near this awesome little pizza place in Highgate Hill, and I'd always get the smoked salmon pizza. Red onion, dill, capers, guacamole and salmon pieces topped with sour cream

Holy thread bump batman!

Seriously, do the homemade thing, it may be a little more expensive, but it's the best if you do it right. Fresh dough, homemade red sauce, fresh pepperoni that you slice yourself, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, sausage, onions, olives. Hell yeah. It will take a while to plan out and cook it all, but it will be worth it, trust me.

yeah no doubt mate, but i guess being able to cook pizza's good helps.

im not a bad cook at all.. but once i decided id try to make a home made lasagne, and it turned out no better than a supermarkets home brand lasagne.

so for things like that i tend to leave it to the pro's

I hear you. Did you use your own ingredients, like your own red sauce for the lasagna or did you use some stuff from a jar? That makes all the difference imo. Pizza is much easier to improve, most chain places all have the same crust, you can't replace some seriously good, fresh pizza dough. You might have to be a little more creative, you can use a variety of different doughs to make it extra flaky, crispy, or soft, depending on what you like.

Some of you guys like really weird toppings...
