How is Shonky as a dj? I missed him last year when he was in NYC and I'd like to get out to one of his shows.

Yeah, what bas said. That's the first ever mix I've heard from Shonky and I was very impressed. Both sets contain some of the best music I've heard this year ;)

Pretty lame, but the mix morrison/aisher did was really nice. It captured the summer feeling that the tune was supposed to have. Radio Slave captured about everything beatport's top ten and we all know how big a compliment that is.

Remix of Data Sapiens or Do It For Love, that's Radio Slave i like, not this 15 min "umpf shhh umpf shhh umpf shhh" track, maybe useful as dj tool but not as separate track

Panorama Garage mix is cool

Nope, I don't need a DeLorean to flee from techy sounds, it's just that this release struck me as one of many lately that sounds cheap and thoughtless, written on auto-pilot. Sounds like throwaway music to me. And I know that some will defend the pivotal importance of throwaway tunes to get the club hopping or whatever, but for me dance music ought to be listening music as well, more than just club-bumping fodder. Some might say that is just hopelessly idealistic, but I can afford to be that way since I never have to think about whether my choice in tunes will please anyone but me. I like something that I think I'll enjoy for more than a few months, and hopefully for more than a few years even. And these tracks certainly don't fit that bill.

I understand where you're coming from. That's why I've been heavily gravitating towards Planet E releases. They in my opinion keep it very musical. Keep an eye on that label if you feel depressed w/ the current state of dance music. It will keep your spirits high :)
