A little bit of college, but what I majored in before was garbage. Too easy. I dropped out and I'm planning on becoming a geometrician/mathematician... my true love, as I have discovered. It's what I was meant to do. Mathematics and Geometry are infinitely complex, but I get it. |

Know why most Mathematicians are virgins? Because Math is their true love. |

| I ask because it seems like the people who put the most faith in "raw intelligence" generally don't have much education -- or many intellectual achievements of any kind -- yet for some reason also have a very high opinion of their own intelligence. |

I didn't downplay education. Bad education vs. Good intelligence, it's clear that you'd be better off on your own (or in combination with an even better education). Good education vs. Bad intelligence, it's clear that you'd be better off going to college (or blasting your brains out if you can't learn because you're essentially human garbage as I've stated above).
Your observation is something I completely agree with which is why I've decided to pursue a college education and to create things of worth before opening my mouth because people don't take you seriously if you haven't. Something which I'm not going to try to argue against because, for the most part, most people without a higher education or anything to show for their "high intelligence" shouldn't be taken seriously. I want to be taken seriously so I know what I must do. |

Akridrot, with all due respect I still dont understand some of your ideals.

There is no education when it comes to intelligence. The smartest kid in the class would get it if he studied on his own (even without a text book, just by experimenting in a logical manner) or had a bad teacher. With a good teacher, he will go very far but he's still OK even if disadvantaged compared to the kids who just. don't. get. it. |
If we are still talking about poverty, then this analogy is kind of inaccurate because the impoverished simply cannot afford to conduct these experiments to become smarter (their lives are a higher priority than their education, and they are BARELY getting by with their lives as is.)
Furthermore, what will these experiments provide them? One of the strengths of western society is international trade, not education. its the limited resources, not limited knowledge, that is hurting them the most. They dont trade because they have no resource to offer (which is not their fault, but their geography) and because of language barriers. And no amount of experiment will allow these people to learn about an international language, they simply need a textbook, class, or teacher. None of these reasons are due to their incapable mind or laziness. |

Good decision.
It's easy to sit back and claim you have high intelligence and dismiss the tedium and minutiae of academic work and actual research as somehow "beneath" you, maybe fancying that if you weren't so high above it all and bored by details you could easily surpass all those narrow people actually getting their hands dirty with specific projects. I don't know how many times I've seen that line taken by people who have never even seriously engaged with higher education. |

You're talking about high level abstract knowledge, I'm talking about basic, functional innovations in the way they do things that will improve their lives and allow them climb higher and higher in spite of limited resources. I'm talking about not knowing how to fish for food or using inefficient hunting tools to go after large animals (when a bow and arrow could have saved you time and energy compared to chasing the damn thing for hours).
You have to start somewhere. Also, if there are really that little resources than what makes more sense for all of you to eat: cooperation or warring with each other? |

| What I find weird is that comp sci majors are on the low end of the chart. Most of the comp sci people I've known glowed with nerdiness. |
