Time Warner (Road Runner) adds cap / bandwidth tier language to subscriber agreement

If you use Road Runner in SoCal and download lots of stuff, this is for you....
As a part of upgrading their systems to DOSCSIS3.0 (which Comcast has available in some markets...will double most people's bandwidth isntantly if you have a DOSCIS3.0 cable modem...but will be able to get speed of 50mbps down/20mbps up if you want....matching Verizon FIOS internet)....anyhow, TWC/RR attempted to launch a tiered-pricing plan in a few markets a few months ago that miserably failed because of customer backlash. So they killed that plan for the time being. And said they would "educate" their customers and pretty much said that some form of tiering or bandwidth capping would occur....Comcast has a bandwidth cap per month, but it's 150GB-250GB (and if you exceed it, you are banned from using their service for a year)....
in April after that failure, they were suggesting they would offer a 100GB/month cap limit for $75/month at 10mbps/1mbps....(which I pay like $50/month, maybe a little less, right now...and unlimited bandiwdth)...and $1/gb over that upto another $75, so as time goes by and you are able to buy movies online, watch Hulu in HD,e tc ec etc....you could end up paying $150/month for your internet...
Now people receiving their bills (nationwide apparently) give a little notice that the user agreements have been amended and say to view the updated version on the TWC website... and a closer look has found that they are def gearing up for this plan, or something like it. It's not fully in there yet, but there is now terminology set in place that will allow them to basically slow your internet down as you get close to your cap or suspsend service altogether....which means that in the end, we all could be screwed....paying a lot of money for using the internet a lot.
Anyhow, no wonder the US is behind the rest of the world in broadband and just falling futher behind.
Luckily, some people in congress are against this as it's causing our country to lose its competitive edge with the internet, so hopefully in the end they can do something about this..
In the meantime, if you care about this stuff, a great little blog/site....
Sorry if I make no sense in parts. I haven't really slept the past several days. Been dealing with bad insomnia...

Tim Warner blows
Ever since I got Verizon FIOS, I never looked back. Their TV and Internet is the best |

FIOS is grat, but I'm actually surprised with the quality of TWC Hi-Def in my area. Way better than Comcast int he Bay Area and better than DirecTV and Dish...
...just needs more channels...and to actually get receivers that are 1/10th decent.
As bad as TWC's customer support is, all I ever read about Verzon's FIOS customer service is horrific. :p |

I never had to encounter their customer service because I never have problems with Verizon :p
I'm glad cable has some more competition now. Maybe this will make them step up |

Time Warner is cool. I like On Demand and the music channel, get to hear some of your mixes on there. |

| I absolutely despise Time Warner, I wish there was another internet option for me in my area but it seems that Time Warner is my best bet. I really hope Congress is able to do something, capping internet bandwidth the biggest waste of time on the ing planet. |

| Time Warner is just awful. Their customer service is the pits and their DNS is a joke. But sadly I'm used to the poor data infrastructure that exists in America. |

| Ouch, I'd better check our bill more closely. I don't use much bandwidth, but my roommate is always downloading stuff from the torrents. |

I gave up on Time Warner and switched to AT&T U-Verse. Never looked back!

LOL, AT&T U-Verse's nickname is AT&T U-Herse cause it has so many issues itself. :-p
Although, AT&T DSL was great when I had it...
Seems like everything available in SoCal has major issues as far as what's available.
SF was OK. As long as you got DirecTV or Dish if you wanted OK customer service (especially if you get upto A+ status with DirecTV, which I had at once) and Comcast's internet was always damn good up there. |
