Lawl I just registered to this forum man. Trance is some good goto say, just got into the genre completely new. I'm a very big metal fan myself. Got me 175 gigs of pure metal on my external drive right now. My top 5 fav bands atm...

1. Asphyx - Death Doom Metal from Netherlands
2. Devourment - Brutal Death Metal from USA
3. Rammstein - Industrial Metal From Germany
4. Blind Guardian - Power Metal from Germany
5. Necrodeath - Death/Black/Thrash Metal from Italy
Burn Notice
I saw Asphyx at the Maryland Deathfest a few months ago. They were powerful live. Haven't heard the new album yet.

Devourment were horrible like usual :p

never really been a metal fan, i guess i just don't wear enough wife beaters... :p
Mr Game+Watch
Used to be a big fan before I discovered edm... all the basics - Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath... it hasn't really been my 'thing' though for a while. Apart from the few stuff I grew up with, I can't really go back and listen to it, though I enjoyed myself at an In Flames show I went to recently.

All the genre splitting in metal is confusing, it's almost as bad as edm, lol. Metal needs its own "Ishkur's Guide" methinks.

I think it's even worse.

What do you think they should go under.

They are a unique band with a unique sound, they don't fit into the definition of any widely established metal style. One could call what they do math, avant-garde, experimental, progressive extreme metal. Or something like that. They certainly don't do thrash metal. They did bring back some thrash influence from their early days on a few tracks on obZen, like "Combustion" with its high-tempo thrashing, but that's another thing.

Cannibal Corpse, Now I don't know whether I should go to their show in september. I'm expecting it to be a rather monotonous experience. Don't know whether it's going to be worth it.

Any thoughts?

Not worth it. A load of better bands and shows out there. No offense. I like CC myself but they are pretty terrible compared to a large variety of bands in their genre. I'm gona try to hit up NJ Deathfest this fall, much better show. But one of the big talks of death metal would be Maryland Deathfest but thats every May of each year I Think and I myself simply don't have the kind of money to hit up such a show atm

:/ yeah I know what you mean dude. All there has been the same, it's literally a small difference every time they release an album. I went Morbid Angel, now that's a show dude! Loved every second of it! I highly reccomend them.

Its not that its the same, its just not as impressive as most of the better bands of the death metal scene. Morbid Angel is amazing btw... Altars of Madness is a legendary release. Also Morbid Angel has a new album comming out ;)

Really surprised at some of the names mentioned here. Usually metal threads on TA end up discussing linkin park/tool/disturbed :).

I am a huge melodeath fan. Of course I also enjoy progressive/melodic black/gothic/doom metal and their various subgenres. I'll post some melodeath clips, just because nobody else has :p

Insomnium - Mortal Share

Amon Amarth - Death in Fire

Scar Symmetry - The Illusionist

Mors Principium Est - Pure
