Gibbs & Sacchin are still playing. Rhodes is long gone, pollock about 3 years ago and gilchrist is only playing in the IPL (indian premier league) which is where the money is now.
modern greats (of all forms of the game)
Pietersen (England)
Jayawardene & Sangakkara (Sri Lanka)
De Villiers Steyn, Smith (South Africa)
Chanderpaul (he's 34 now though) & Bravo (West Indies)
Dhoni, Yuvraj, Sacchin (India)
tbh most of the best aussies are now gone. from their unbeatable side they've lost gilchrist, hayden, warne, mcgrath, macgill, martyn and Brett Lee is a shadow of his former self. Ponting is still going but close to the end of his career also.
wow most of the aussies who made what they were are gone, sangkara is still alive lol? Jayasurya is gone too rite? Dhoni is ing awesome.
whats with IPL, I thought it was just indian players in there?

That's the cricket equivalent of the premier league. Any professional cricketer can play in the Indian Premier League provided his cricket board lets him play. Pakistan didn't allow its players to participate in the 2009 edition.

yes, I do :)
right now, it's south africas to lose. they've got the best lineup and most consistency. India are hot and cold, Pakistan even more so. West Indies fall into that bracket too. New Zealand are solid if unspectacular, the irish are there and did well to qualify at the expense of bangladesh but have no chance of anything else. England have got a serious case of media-scurvy. Too many jerks around and we've not picked the best squad. Aside from that, Sri Lanka look good too.
I'd be very surprised if the final was anything other than SA vs Sri Lanka right now, but that can quickly change in this shorter form of the game.

I haven't seen SAf play this tournament yet, but I reckon Sri Lanka are also looking very strong to take it.
Having said that, I can't get into 20/20. I've tried, and as much as I love cricket it just doesn't do it for me.

Didn't certain nations have some beef with players in the IPL, banning them from international competitions if they took part?

That was the Indian Cricket League which was not sanctioned by the ICC.
IPL is not the same as the Indian Cricket League.

yeah, dont get me wrong, I even used to play ball as a kid, and ofcourse it takes form to drive a ball 400 feet. Just trying to raise some pro-cricket sentiment hehe. Comparing the batting specifically however, I do think that baseball is more one dimensional than cricket. To open yourself up to take a full swing in cricket is very risky thing to do, and the 360 versus 90 degrees of hitting space allows for more possibilities. But then again, you got elements strategic bunts and gaps for base hits in baseball as well, plus strategic baserunning.
