Giving Maradona the head coaching job was a BIG mistake especially since he has very little coaching experience before. A team that's loaded like Argentina should not be in 4th place during qualifications. I mean that squad has Messi, Mascheano, Aguero, Zanetti to name a few. They shouldn't lose to Bolivia 6-1 at La Paz. Yes La Paz has a ridiculously high altitude, but Argentina lost by that wide of a margin because they were poorly prepared and coached. Hell, Chile and Venezuela won at La Paz: Chile won 2-0, while Venezuela won 1-0.

Yes, Maradona is a legend as a player. I'm not denying that. He's clearly struggling to properly coach the squad and apply the right tactics. In other words, he has no idea what he's really doing on the sidelines. The AFA should have picked someone more seasoned and with a good track record.

Ask the boca fans who turned on their very own legend over Riquelme:

I'm not the only one who noticed that Maradona is struggling with his duties:

Star players who get rushed into big time coaching duties is usually a recipe for disaster and Maradona has done nothing to prove he's an exception to this.

I'm sorry, did Argentina qualify for the world cup already? O that's right you're in danger of not even making it unless you get your act together.

boca fans are boca fans. there's a difference in that, some people LOVE boca and HATE the national team. you're mixing apples with oranges. also, i'm not justifying maradona's behavior and/or riquelmes for that matter (who i happen to think is too 'slow' for our team). maybe in boca hes a king but on an international level he's ok. i agree that he's a smart player but nothing to kill for.
listen all i'm saying is that maradona is an inspiration for us all and as you can clearly see within the league there is so much bull that sometimes we forget about the game and focus on our egos...this is the case with argentina!!! if argentina would put aside all the drama and just focus on the game, i can assure u we can beat ANY team, including the US haha!

ps: i'm all river so boca bosterosssssssssss!!!!!! :D

verndogs has a point... Donadoni was a very respected former Italian national, until he became the coach of the Azzuri. People turned on him and blamed him for everything, completely forgetting about all the good things he did for Italian soccer...

That's why I like it when legendary players retire and dissappear... When they leave at their prime, and don't go for the second shot at glory, because it never comes... Robert Baggio's a good example, you can't find him anywhere, he's dropped off the face of the earth, and yet his name still lives on as a legend.
