Listening to this Mike Huckaby set is making me realize how much I miss house music.
Don't get me wrong, I like techno and tech house (although most of what I've been hearing recently is becoming really boring to me), but I feel like it's being played everywhere right now. It's a really dark sound that takes itself too seriously sometimes. It lacks that soulful, fun feeling. It would suck if this trend continued into the summer, although it looks like it will be that way.
Yes, I know we have Derrick Carter coming, but a good portion of the events you see in the event thread will probably have tech house playing. It would be nice to hear our residents throw down a house set every once in a while. Generally speaking, I'd just like to hear house resurface a bit in this city. |
I said this 3 years ago. I've continued to say it since. Techno is good in spurts, but I've never been able to handle it for 10 hours at a time. Even when house got all dark, it was still house. Now I'm craving a comeback of house that's full of funk, party, and soul instead of just twisted dark and grimy. You knw, the stuff that mnakes you smile instead of the stuff that just makes you curl your lower lip thinking 'damn, this stuff is dirtaaaaaaaay!' |

Yea, I agree. That sound, for example, on a boat cruise, just isn't the same. I'm all for variety whether it be house, trance or techno but some of the elitists("die-hards") make me laugh when they say listening to *only* minimal or electro on a boat for hours is their thing. ZzzzZzzzz |

| Agreed. I am a huge fan of everything funky. That being said, it would be nice to hear a lot more funky progressive as well (e.g. Jaytech & friends). |

Variety is the spice of life. A little variety throughout a nice can be a nice touch. I even remember going to parties that would span multiple genres in the same room, from jungle to techno.
That being said, variety is nice on a larger scale too, sometimes a party with a little bit of everything would be nice, other times stick me in the middle of the guv with lights down low for 12 hours of prog |
