What is the difference bewteen hardstyle and trance?

| hey guys im used to trance and techno but i was trying to program my first hardstyle track the other day and im lost i felt i should do something different i mean start the intro different or do something different than normal trance etc. if someone could tell me what is different than normal hard trance and what are some characteristics that hard style has...and if i should just program the way i always have done and just incorprotate hardstyle characteristics. |

| Wouldn't it be easier to go out and buy a hardstyle compilation CD, rather than try to work out how it sounds based on a few descriptions? Why are you making music you've never heard before? |

Not sure if that link is hard style.. more hard / commercial trance ... from the late 90s. Good ol' Paffendorf... loved that Terminator 2 remix!

| Hardstyle is this god-awful hybrid of trance, techno, and happy hardcore that sounds like a bizarre African death ritual involving pots, pans, bowel evacuation, and a sabre-toothed tiger with its testicles caught in a shop-vac. So it's not as bad as trance, but it's up there. |

| Hardstyle is like really awful dutch trance only with harder kicks, way longer and way cheesier breakdowns, and more drug references. |
