They used to be all plump and small and red and bursting with flavor and now they're all huge and hard and flavorless/sour.
I blame california

I went and picked my own last week. 80pence a lb in weight (454grams for you new people) and the best quality ever. So brilliant.
I do however agree, I won't buy many varieties because of their poor quality in taste/texture/value. Look for elsanta, sonata & ava |

yeah ive been eating some good strawberries too
now if you want to complain about produce, the tomatoes i've had in the USA pale in comparison to those i've had in italy. i don't even like to eat tomatoes here in the states, but when i am in Italy they are like candy to me. |

the one thing my brother is missing from the UK is good berries. Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, redcurrants, he says just aren't the same. |

I bet that goes for mushrooms too
Truth is we do have some good local strawberries, but damn they're considerably more expensive than the imported ones:( |

Why blame california? the strawberries here are awesome. blame your local market for buying strawberries! |

| I blame California too. The Strawberries I buy in Toronto, if I don't go to the market, are HUGE and not as flavorful. And they come from California and are probably grown in some green house and pumped with steroids. |

| Most of the strawberries we eat are genetically modified... perhaps they are using different genes from before? |
