DJ Mish’Chief, (aka Marishka), spent her childhood growing up in South Africa, Europe and South America before arriving in Australia – from an early age music was always her constant providing a universal language that transcended culture and continents.
Early influences included Punk, Hard Rock, Gospel, Soul and what use to be considered alternative – bands like Depeche Mode, The Cure, Jesus and the Mary Chain, Violent Femmes and other ‘ early indie’ sounds. First exposed to (and immediately falling in love with) the energy and drive of ‘dance music’ in the late 80’s, she was passionate about exploring the emerging genre.
It wasn’t until some 20 years later in Melbourne 2000 that a short course in ‘beat mixing’ introduced her to the other side of the DJ booth and the thrill of (attempting) to beat mix vinyl. It was the beginning of her current addiction – TUNES and the endless creativity offered from “mixing”.
Like most fledgling DJ’s she begged/borrowed time on mates decks until finally in 2002 she got her own. Committed to ‘quality, well-produced ’ music she refused to comply with the mass view of “hot-now” commercially acceptable” sounds and forged a DJ path with music styles she was passionate about. Hunting for gigs and opportunities to play where people loved the music; not the scene, she built a slow but steady following gaining respect in the Industry for her commitment to creating a distinctive ‘sound’.
The hard work paid off! Today she is regularly listed with some of Melbourne’s finest events including Rainbow Serpent, Sunny, Earthcore and numerous club nights and promoter parties as well as hosting her own event..
Known for her energy, dynamic sets, an ability to connect with a crowd and get a room jumping, her sets span a wide range of styles. She’s no genre snob selecting from diverse sounds to create unique and engaging sets. She’s versatile and not afraid to mix things up with anything from Techno, Progressive, Jacking House, Hard Disco, Electro-Rock, Minimal and funked up breaks/hip hop featuring in her sets.
“I believe there is quality in all styles and genres, it’s the DJ’s responsibility to combine the right ingredients at any given gig to capture the imagination of the place, to create the sound and the energy that’s going to get punters smashing it on the dance floor” said Mish’Chief.
Mish’Chief is no “good girl’ – her trademark style is tough grinding mechanical baselines combined with playful rhythms and samples, all with a slightly menacing attitude. “ It’s music that makes you move, it sexy in a ‘dirty’ way, it can make you pull ‘those’ faces, punch air and it will definitely make you sweat” she said. This is not for “light-weights” who might like their sounds more “pop” than “punch”.
Mish’Chief is crazy about the music, if she’s not spinning deadly tracks in the booth you’ll probably find her front and centre on the dance floor. Her passion and taste are reflected in her enthusiasm to create dynamic sets. She’s a tidy mixer who has spent time honing the technical skills of her craft. Her attention to detail, programming and composition, smooth mixes, effects and interesting samples allow her to deliver originality that keeps each set fresh and the dance floor engaged.
Now turning her interest to production Mish’Chief is excited about the possibilities and the journey ahead.
Previous Players: Sunny, Interview, Genesis, Earthdance, Purr vents, Lectroland, Vanity Fair, Unify, Hyrda, Liquid, Collission, Earthcore, Rainbow Serpent, Instinct, Spunk, Tickled Pink and numerous parties and club gigs.

DISKO
If you have ever seen Disko DJ, you would have remembered it clearly... If it’s not the long blonde plaits, it’s her presence behind the decks or her rocking tunes!
Playing her first gig at the Mercat Cross Hotel many moons ago, she was shortly after recruited by the team at Teriyaki Anarki Sarki and Fokus, two of Melbourne's legendary techno institutions. She has also played parties such as Virus, Earthcore and even toured around Australia during her long term career. We are really looking forward to Daisy tearing up the interview crew for a night of mayhem!

DANNI B
With a lifelong passion for the dance floor and the accompanying electronic music, Danni B has risen to become one of Melbourne’s fast-rising female DJs.
As a hobbyist spinning tunes in the bedroom from 2003, she first made the transition from the floor to the club decks in 2005 and, after realising that the best way to get a regular gig was to host a night, Danni envisioned ‘Tickled Pink’ - conceived from the fact there was space in the scene for a female DJ night - now one of Melbourne’s highly successful monthly events.
While the night is populated by the femme equation, Danni also realised there was space to incorporate a male edge to the evening, with some of the country’s most renowned and revered producers sharing their tunes with the punters. As the night reaches its fourth year, it has become an institution for people looking for an unpretentious night out.
With influences ranging from electro-fuelled textures of Tiefschwarz, to the Techno minded Vitalic, Stephan Bodzin and Thomas Schumacher and pocketed inspiration from the likes of Sasha, Digweed, The Chemical Brothers and James Holden, Danni’s sets are never put down to one sound. There’s always room for a mixture of records, which has helped secure residencies and rotations across Victoria, including Pretty Simple @ Ffour, Spunk, Lounge, Sunny, Darkbeat, Push, Mish Mash, Room680 and onesixone. Danni has also been fortunate enough to play alongside some of her heroes in Christian Smith, Jona, Tiefschwarz, Steve Porter, Yuksek, Paolo Mojo, Hernan Cattaneo and more.
Danni also collaborates with other major promoters, helping her successfully promote not only her institution, but those of others as well, culminating with a cross-promotion for the ‘Roomember’ reunion & Darkbeat parties.
With enthusiasm, a musical breadth close to complete and a presence behind the decks many aspire to, Danni B is one to watch over the many years to come.

DJ BEAN
Natasha Cuenca, aka BEAN, has always had a huge love for carving up dancefloors all over Melbourne which in turn eventually lead to the natural progression of Djing some nine years ago when she got her first big break with a residency at Candy Bar.
Having played at most of Melbourne’s well respected clubs over the years saw her pack up for a European tour in 2004 which lead to residencies in Ibiza (Base Bar, Es Vive & Somny) and supporting both the Hed Kandi & Defected crews. On returning to Melbourne she got back to her roots & scored a residency with Earthcore playing at the infamous Sunday night institution that was ‘Freebase’ and was offered her own radioshow on Melbourne’s KISS FM. She was also asked to play the mainstage @ Earthdance as well as Rainbow Serpent with the BIG:RED:BUS crew.
After another few years of globetrotting BEAN held down residencies in Rome (Alibi), Barcelona (FoneFone), London (Medicine Bar, The Elbow Room, Vinum), Amsterdam (11) as well as playing the Full Moon Party in KoPhangan. She has also worked quite closely with Rome’s ‘Radio Azzuria Italia’ where she frequently played live sets with some of the cities biggest names as well as Ibiza’s ‘Global Radio’.
Musically speaking, BEAN doesn’t following ‘the rules’ & her ability to avoid pigeonholing herself into any specific genre along with her perfectionist attitude to her mixing has seen her support International & Local DJ/Producers such as Dnox, Infected Mushroom, Reefer Decree, Sun Conrol Species, Skazi, Tiefschwarz, DJ Beka (r.i.p. babe), Junior Sanchez, Sarah Main, Clive Henry as well as a load more. Her vast musical appetite will usually enable you to enjoy hearing her play anything from underground house right through to progressive trance depending on the party & (more likely) her mood ;)
Now happily settled back in Melbourne, she is truly loving her ‘musical family’ THE:BIG:RED:BUS crew where she is a resident DJ |
