off. i don't owe you jack , nevermind any sort of explanation. maybe if you treated me with a little goddamn respect i would get into a conversation with you about my beliefs.
good night:D |
Sorry, I must have missed the part where your idiotic, ignorant ideas about the world (or petulant responses when challenged) were automatically deserving of respect.
your repeated insults aren’t really that effective on an almost 31 year old male who is more than comfortable with his own body, and doesn’t give a about dumbass-slightly-attractive-sluts calling him names. What is this, highschool? Your glory days are long over and whilst I understand you’re bitter that you’ll never be on top again and the fact that all those “nerds” from school now mock you on forums, that should give you impetus to improve yourself rather than fall back on adolescent-era stereotypes.
FYI Tshirts with pictures =/ raver wear. |

in my experience i have found that it is only nightmarish because it does away with all the illusions that comfort and sustain our mind/worldview.
when you realize nothing at all is what it seemed or seems to be, you bricks.
and i agree, it is not something you need to experience many times, particularly if you value your 'life' or 'sanity' as you conceive of it
it's like if you're having a good dream and you can feel yourself about to wake up, but you are enjoying the dream so much that you decide to stay in it rather than to awaken. |

and then there is spirituality which is something completely different |

As always in this kind of thread, I recommend reading Derren Brown's "A Trick Of The Mind" for a great explanation of how superstition, premonition, luck and New Age beliefs actually work, and why they're false. |
there should be another book called 'the mind: a trick of nature' |

You could check out Daniel Dennett's Consciousness Explained. ;) |

actually i hung out with the nerds, i was hardly the prom queen type. lol
wanna try again? you know, pretending like you even have a clue about how i am as a person or how i was in high school? lol
my only point is that i refuse to humor you in a conversation about my beliefs because you treat me like on here. why is that such a hard concept for you to grasp?
and rodrico shush. i'll cut you. |

ahhh i've got too much to read
but that title sounds silly, since you have to be conscious to 'explain' consciousness. you'd have to be beyond consciousness to explain it in its entirety, without subjective interference or skewed perception. quantum mechanical experiments have shown us that it's impossible to make 'objective' observations, that the observer is the observed, except in limited, macro-scale cases.
to be honest i'm only marginally interested in physiological explanations of consciousness.
it's like when it comes to artwork, i am more interested in the ineffable quality of the artwork, the beauty and the meaning rather than the technique, or how the paint was produced, etc.
a good book is 'I Am That' by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.
I'll look into the dennett book nonetheless.
it's funny because both these scientist-rationalist-everything-is-matter types and adherents of advaita vedanta mysticism would probably agree that consciousness is an epiphenomenon of 'nature', an illusion or 'trick'. really what they argue about are of course the means to this discovery but also the ultimate meaning of this, ie what is the nature of 'nature'?
'consciousness' is like the reflection of the moon in a lake. i am more interested in both what the reflection is of, as well as the lake itself |

| The point is, we can ALL find "evidence" that supports our beliefs. So everyone should just stfu, because at the end of the day we're still going to stick with whatever satisfies our egos the most. |

It's more philosophy than physiology.

I hear plenty of people say that all evidence and beliefs are on an equal level, but their actions nearly always contradict what they say. |

Following scientific method of investigation and reasoning is actually a pretty good way of changing irrational beliefs due to lack of evidence. |
