| I listened, it seemed kinda plain imho. You could add some variation to the lead melody [notes] and the sound. It was fine it just didn't seem to have that "energy"...trance isn't really my thing so I don't know how to give the track more energy. |

| More aggressive mixing per say usually suits that sort of heavy synth/bass line in this sort of track.. unfortunately I've somewhat gone off trance and don't really listen to it (ironic, two in a row on a forum with such a name). I appreciated the melody and progression though during the mini breaks, and liked the punchiness of the kick. I wasn't big on the clap sample though. |

You know what I really wasn't expecting this but in all honesty this track ing rules!
Prog trance at its finest. It reminds me of early cyber records stuff.
Early GU mixes.
Put simply if If I was in a record store and I heard this I would buy it.
I can picture this on vinyl right now. Awesome work dude. Congrats.
I LOVE that synth sound at 5.25
Now what could improve. The sound quality. Not it terms of mixing coz the mix is balanced but it terms of mastering. It has that ''pushed plug in compressor sound''
My advise send the mix to a good mastering engineer to master it professionally
This German dude Robert Rabicz AKA ''Rob Acid'' is the best and one of the most expensive mastering engineers in the dance music industry:

http://www.robertbabicz.de/page6/page6.html
If you can afford him at 80 euro a track it is worth it. Awesome sound!
Alternatively use the mastering servise most labels use:
www.optimum-mastering.com do 2020 Vision, Dirty Bird, Urban Torque, NRK, Forensic, Planet Mu and many more.
People use them cause they offer a mastering plus vinyl deal 500 records for 599 GBP So for the UK Based labels cutting vinyl its a cool deal.
If you are not interested in mastering the track professionally and releasing this... sell me the rights to this track for $100. :D
You send my the stems I take it to the studio have it mix send it to get mastered and release it and get all the credit for it ;)
Just Jocking...
Great music all around! TA Hall of fame ;) |

Why are you on a trance forum :D?
Anyhow it doesnt sound bad, heard worse but it is like mentioned very plain and simple. The hihats doesnt give much to the track, it has zero percs, not much dynamic. I would use alot more stereo enchanting plugins to create a bigger visual field, use a stereo expander to make some of the sound wider, cut in 160hz, 500 hertz area on kick to make it a bit more firm and boost 3.5kish for some more snap... can also boost 100hz a little. I would also use a bass plugin such as "basslane" to make the bass mono from 250-300hz and down. This gives the track more punch and energy. There are alot of more things I would comment on but atm my head is killing me, I'll check the track out with some tools later to see what else is missing and I'll come back with some more info.
I would not send the track in for mastering, simply because
1) if you're not good enough to make it sound decent on ur own u will not be able to produce sequals of ur first track in a decent pace, in general it means you are not in the stage where you can produce tune after tune without thinking. Why? Because you perhaps lack experience. So you do you get this experience? You produce, ALOT. You experiment till your ears drop and try out every ty idea ur mind comes up with. Even if it sounds RUBBISH it doesnt matter. Why? Because u have learned new techniques, u get better ears i.e. This is ur curve, ur learning curve to become a pro producer where u pick up stuff on the way and utilize it. One day u will use alot of those tricks and they might become ur signature sound for all I know.
2) I wouldnt bother paying that amount of money when the label you sign ur tracks with will master your tracks IF they need it. In most cases if ur mixing is clean enough they wont even have to master it.
Save ur pennies and rather keep producing, that's my tip!!
Keep producing though, the only way to get better :)

BS Don't with it and ruin it with plugins Just take out any compressors limiters from the master channel and send it out to get mastered professionally.
This is one of the best progressive trance tracks ever and I have 3000 vinyls!
I am not the guy whos easily impressed but I have no trouble saying it like it is.
This. Track. Is. Banging.
I have it on repeat and I have a feel that this is one of those tracks that will end up on my itunes most played list. |

BS? Meh, plus any SW (software) limiter / compressor in master chan except maybe "Waves" will blow ur track to the dirt with quality limitation and clipping. The reason I say he should do those things is mainly because I'm on studio monitors (not the best, but they do have their charm) and the kick would sound alot smoother then.
The kick can get more punchy with a little bit of mastering, and if you want to pay 80 euro every time u have a track that u think can be releases then be my guest. Honestly I would rather get a friend or someone else that produce music to master it for me, or learn it urself. I personally see NO reason what so ever to spend a penny on mastering when you're not at the stage of releasing multiple releases via a label. Why? Because he will get to the point where he will get tons of releases if he works for it, so why waste money when he doesnt need to!?!?
Send it to a label, if they like it then awsome! Trust me, they will tell you if it needs mastering or not. |

Sounds nice to me, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it one of the best prog trancers ever. It's just a pretty good prog trance track.
:p |

First off the track is banging as it is.
But as far as mastering goes the sound quality of good mastering hardware is lights years beyond software. Even the waves and all the rest. They are plug-ins dude. Plug-ins.
This is why all the beatoprt tunes are sounding like . Everybody is cutting corners and mastering with the plugin limiters and crappy multibands and the quality suffers.
German Rob Babicz masters all the big dance tunes.
He has mastered most of your favorite records.
He is expensive for a reason. Supply and demand.
He is the mastering engineer you want mastering your dance tunes ;)
He also uses custom equipment. He doesn't like multi-bands.
You cannot push a track hard with digital & software mastering coz you get artifacts.
There is a reason why they got 50k - 100k equipment to do mastering.
http://www.optimum-mastering.com/ is also really good for mastering dance tunes. |
