i think that is fine. when you start going 200 miles, 400 miles then it starts to get shady imo.

like any diet it is about willpower, and only you know if you are cheating or not.

That's what some people have been telling me. But I love the taste of Tuna too much. Wouldn't I have to eat some obscene amount before I got sick?

i get the whole concept of buying local food because it likely has fewer preservatives and is fresher, but going on a diet that encourages adhering strictly to local foods is overkill IMO. When a farmer's market comes to the city, I'll hit it up to get a fresh steak and some fresh juice or something. But if you're going out of your way to ensure every single thing you consume is local, you've got too much time on your hands :p Major harvesting, distribution, and import/export channels exist for a reason - they make stuff convenient, not to mention they create a hell of a lot of jobs for people.

the thing is it is not only about the food.

to truck/fly/boat all of your imported food stuffs, think about how much pollution is caused by this, not to mention how much unnecessary packaging is involved.

if you think eating should only be convenient, this is not for you. My gf and i both have jobs, work hard, don't always have "time" , but at the end of the day you can see that you do have the time. You just choose to waste it by eating from a microwave so you can sit on your ass in front of a tv/cpu/hooker popping ping pong balls out of her snatch for quarters.

the us is the fattest country on earth because it is all about easy eating. No one knows how to cook from fresh anymore, if you think it is a good thing, that is fine, hospitals are making a killing charging extra for "fat beds" (special beds for the morbidly obese).

*buys a hybrid, moves to san fran and sniffs own farts.*

also: would you rather stimulate the local economy or give your money to people from abroad. Having a social conscience is not conveniant.

This diet does not cure the world, but helps you realize so much about many different levels of things regarding food that you might not realize. Even when i used to work in the restaurant industry, i never thought about these things or the impact they could have on us, our planet, and underpants gnomes.

Raw tuna and other sushi fish are also something to watch out for. Often the apex predators of the food chain, these fish tend to be high in mercury.

I looked it up to and it said that you get tremors or some ? People make it sound like you're gonna die.

In adults, mercury poisoning can adversely affect fertility and blood pressure regulation and can cause memory loss, tremors, vision loss and numbness of the fingers and toes. A growing body of evidence suggests that exposure to mercury may also lead to heart disease.

What DOESN'T cause all that ?!

Although I rather would like to keep my toes and fingers.

Wow.

California is too large. 100 miles is too small. Most of the produce is grown far north of Bakersfield. As is the rice and other grains.

Oh and I love this:

California grows more than half of the
nation’s fruits, vegetables and nuts from less
than four percent of the nation’s farmland.
