Roll Call / Review: TIME Festival 2009 (Sat, Jul 25) (pg. 9)

what a night.

Mills really enjoyed the party. Yes he had some technical issues
but it wasnt the turntalbles as we switched the needels a few times and even Jeff said it wasnt that. it was his old records that were just dying. I think that he should just forget about the vinyl and use the 909 because he just works that thing like a true master.

As far as the sound goes we did the best with the limitations we were given. It sounded quite crisp> yes there could have been more bass
but trust me we didnt want to risk the venue shuting down our room.
The docks is on a quite thin line with the islanders.

Thanks everyone for coming and supporting and next year we gear up
for something even bigger.

Jeff Mills is a treat and we are spoilled since Toronto is the only
city he has played in Canada in the last 10 years.

I had alot of fun... was a bit disapointed in the music compared to how much fun I had last year and the venue outside.

The all ages was cool like people said so that kids get into the sound, but it made it an awful pain to walk around and go room to room, hell I didn't even realize how to get to the main room front stage until the party was almost over!

Who was playing that 5gum room around 11pm? Was that Teej who played Modjo - Lady? Or was I in that room alot later than I thought?

The pieces of Farina I caught was ALOT of fun, regardless of the sound or the amount of people there.

Mills....MILLS was fun! I really enjoyed that! Love that they had video of him working the decks and 909 on the projection so that you could really see his wizardy. Technical mishaps sure, but it was fun and a treat to see. Right up at front, raving with everyone was great! Met some cool new people too!

Overall, I had a great night, BUT that was mainly because of the people I was with, lots of friends came up from Windsor, met up with friends from T.Dot and we all let loose and had a great time. I can honestly say, that I would have probably been pretty disapointed in the party if I didn't get a chance to see Mills, or friends were not there. Things that would have made it better...

1) Had it at Sunnyside again :D
2) More accesible layout for the rooms
3) LOUDER and better sound
4) All the acts that I wanted to see in each of the rooms all seemed to overlap between 1am and 4am, so I guess would be spread out the headliners a bit
5) Kudos to the barstaff, they were on fire and quick, but still was awfully slow to get a drink, and got short changed twice... but this was just because they were understaffed IMO. So quicker bars and more bartenders!
6) After parties should be AFTER the party, not the next night! Was still geared up after Time, woulda been fun to see more of Farina!

Sounds like I may be complaining, but I really am not, it was a good rave, had fun. Just pointing out things that would have really made it awesome and memorable and probably stand out and left a mark like the first Time Fest did for me.

Yeeeeah... speaking of the bar staff, here's a tip: TAKE MORE THAN ONE ORDER AT A TIME.

Looking busy does not equal efficient service. Sorry, but I've never seen anything so ridiculous at a club before; take an order, walk to the register, bring drink, collect money, walk back to register, collect change, walk back to impatient chump, deliver change, repeat. All of the bartenders I've dealt with at Footwork and even the Guv seem to have no problem handling at least 2 or 3 orders at a time, maybe 4 or 5 on busier nights.

Fortunately, the bar at the back upstairs (near Farina's stage) was near empty for most of the night; after I realized that, I just sprinted up there for refreshments.

And where was THEIR afterparty and why didn't I get an invite?! Who's studio was that?

AND, who was that lucious freckly redhead with the cans?

i had a good time, but i do share the sentiment of many others who also felt the party was lacking musically and vibe-wise. I liked TIME better last year....

i should have listened to my gut and skipped out this year, as I just could not get into it at all Sat night...thankfully had a good sized crew who provided most of the entertainment for the night as the music just wasn't measuring up (but an honourable mention goes out to Jamie Kidd...loved his set)
