I originally did this remix last year, but lost all of the samples i created in the great hard drive crash of 2008. it's the full track with intro and outro so you'll be able to mix in and out of it if you feel like it :p

a year later i decided to start over with it again, mainly because of a recent surge in motivation.. so this is pretty much a recreation of the *almost finished* track i did before. structurally it's the same as the old one. obviously i need to re-do the percussion and add some fills to make it a little more interesting and work with the vocal levels a bit more, but i would really appreciate some advice on tightening up and perhaps freeing up a bit of space in the mix.

constructive criticism and comments would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

one of my biggest flaws in production is the fact that i don't know how to automate filters and effects that could really add to the score. i think the biggest problem with this track is the lack of accentuation and dynamics. suggestions would also be welcome there :p

thanks to sushipunk for hosting. you're a gentleman and a scholar.

Hooray for DNC_Kick!

:tongue2

But other than that I dont really like the kick I'm diggin the groove. I think you would need to work on the mixing because the percs are extremely loud compared to the rest of the track, the percs have a nice balance amoung themselves however, but stick out alot.

Too bad you can't access this anymore cuz i would say its a pretty solid tune regardless of automation. the only thing i woulda recomended is u put all the drums into one group to lower all their volumes simultaneously to preserve the balance of them.

good stuff tho.

:p i was thinking about substituting that for a different one but i'm a sucker for punchy kicks. thanks for taking your time to check it out.

thanks for the advice; thankfully i CAN access it because i just got done redoing all the parts as similarly as i could to the old version. i'm in the process of attentuating the percs a bit now. what type of kick would you suggest then?

also it's kinda hard for me to listen to it objectively as i'm using a pair of skullcandy earbuds because i don't have a decent pair of monitors :p yikes.

post edited with an updated version. attentuated a select amount of percs, switched the kick with a not-so-in-your-face one, and edited the shaker pattern. thanks nightshift.
Omega_Blue
bump because i would really appreciate someone to take the time to listen to this.

Either your headphones are really bass heavy, or you forgot a hipass filter on the master channel. There's no low end in the track.

Musically I think it's ok, though a bit too minimal for my taste.

i didn't know i was supposed to put a hipass filter on the master? why? thanks for the advice, i would appreciate it if you could elaborate a bit

If I'm making music at night, I'll filter out the low end, so I won't disturb the neighbours. I guess that's not an issue with headphones. :p

Seriously though, you should invest in decent monitors. Everything is fine in your track, except the levels.

i'll definitely have to.

what thing(s) is/are too loud/soft, if you were to prod at it? sorry to keep on grilling you, but i need to get a second opinion so i can listen to it objectively myself :p

b0mp. Diggin the tune boss. Sounds better on my speakers than on laptop speakers in my living room for sure. I don't know the original at all so I have no reference to what you did with the track, but for an avid vocal-hater and critical bastard in all things music, it sounds good.

Now finalize this or upload something new for you sig
