afternoon all. For a limited time only mastering available for £15 a track, i've got a few racks of expensive toys just waiting to be used... for more info check out the myspace.com/iainsanderson, gear by avalon, focusrite, joe meek and quested to name a few.
Now, to save any delay i've included some helpful hints prior to sending the track to me. (or anyone else for that matter)
export your track in 24bit 44.1 wav or aiff. no mp3s!!
include a bar of silence at the beginning and end of the track as i've sometimes noticed some sequencers knock off the transients of the first beat of thetrack.
lose all the plugins on the master channel. no limiters, no compression, no EQ. if you been using buss compression from the beginning then let me know and i can take this into account, i've got a lovely valve compressor that does the job much better than any soft comp.
you must be able to play the track through from start to finish without a single red light on the meter. i need at least 6db of headroom to get a good result. dont worry about it being quieter than usual, i'll take care of that. if its too loud theres a lot less that i can do to make it sound was good as it should do!!
drop me a PM on here or email me on studiobobproductions at googlemail.com |

| Are you mastering through a Mackie 8-bus? |
|
|
| studiobob |
| no, i tend to monitor through that, my signal chain goes something like mac to fireface 800 soundcard, out to focusrite 428 preamp, into avalon eq/comp, then insert the joe meek compressor or some of the other gear if necessary then back through the 428 and into the mac. then will use plugins on the computer to finish it off. ie limiting, stereo width etc |

| ok, so you use the Mackie as monitor pre-amp. |
|

| among other uses yes. |

whatever works I guess.. but a Mackie in mastering is just odd.. |

| Why is that? Just curious.. |

a Mackie 8-bus is
1. Noisy
2. lacks resolution
3. add colour to everything that goes through it.
Amongst some other issues 3 things you definitely don't want when mastering. |
