mayor miller is useless.
And I used to be a huge supporter for him because he was from my area, and gave us favoritism. Yeah, I said it. I liked him cuz he treated us better.
But this garbage strike is the last straw. He got nothing out of that union, and because of that, we've just been put through weeks without waste collection with nothing to show for it. I say kick his ass to the curb, and if the garbage collectors ever voluntarily come back from their early retirement, maybe someone will pick him up and take his stanky, worthless ass away from us. |

here's one instance where our dysfunctional, fractured, petty city council may actually be beneficial.
if these idiots expect OT for cleanup and nonsense like that after (apparently) gaining most of what they wanted...I hope council kills the deal and we're back to the negotiating table.
maybe it's time the threat of privitization for some services comes out... |

I hope for that too. I still have yet to be to a dump site even this far in the strike. And passing by one every once in a while shows me that they aren't anywhere near capacity. I'm more than willing to endure more strike at this point if it means putting a hurt on the union.
Either that, or fire them all privatization seems like a good idea to me when compared to the already over-compensated unionized workers!
[and this coming from a socialist, what the hell am I saying these days???] |

if they could, we wouldn't even have a strike :(

The city can fire them. We just need a mayor with balls. Or even one ball.
It's not really an issue of power. You just say "you're all fired, take a hike", lock them out, hire private contractors or immigrants at a fraction of the price, and offer to hire any of the old workers back - at drastically reduced pay of course.
They could make an even bigger statement by offering to re-hire anybody who didn't join the strike at their original pay and with their original benefits.
Remember, Reagan did this at the federal level and that was with highly skilled labour. You really think the city can't bust a union representing trash pickup? |
